As you may already know, R.I.P.D. is based on the Dark Horse Entertainment comic book series. The movie adaptation will see character Nick Cruz, played by Ryan Reynolds, as a recently killed police officer who joins the force in order to try and find his own murderer. Robert Schwentke has signed up to direct, and Bridges will play Roy, a veteran member of the force.

Jeff Bridges has been cast alongside Ryan Reynolds in Universal's "R.I.P.D.," TheWrap has learned.

The Academy Award winner had been in negotiations to play a role that Zach Galifianakis that once been under consideration to play. Bridges will play a police officer in the Rest In Peace Department.


R.I.P.D. is set to be released sometime during 2012, although it's believed that could change depending on whether Reynolds is required to film a Green Lantern sequel.

wow, in what universe would Bridges be looked at as a replacement for Galifinackis?

this is a major upgrade in actors.

in terms of drinking water it is like a jump from raw sewage to Fiji water.

I don't see any scenario where Reynolds comes back to Deadpool, honestly. If Green Lantern is a hit, he's tied up in sequels for it and not likely to take on another costumed superhero role between those films, and if it's a flop then he's not likely to want to jump into another superhero role that will just get the press to bring up Lantern again and again.

If I'm an executive at Fox, I'd be looking to recast the role. As a plus, the script wouldn't have to explain any connections to the mess of the charater's origin in Wolverine.

Fox is not going to do Deadpool rated R like Reynolds wants to. And he said he wants to do it right or not at all, didn't he? I could be confused.

Bridges and Reynolds? Great buddy/cop team up, but i still would like to see Deadpool happen over this.

@Vermillion never say never. Fox could have had Predators be PG-13, but they gave it an R, and it was fantastic.
Deadpool's not a kids character, and the script is hard R, so i don't see why they wouldn't make Deadpool rated R.

Now I like Reynolds but the guy's everywhere ... can't the studios pick some other actor for roles based on comic books?

Thanks you. i have been saying rom the beginning that ryan reynolds is a bad choice for the deadpool movie. they should get nathan fillion. i hope fox and marvel come to their senses before it is too late.
