It's still very early days in terms of box office tracking but the first predictions for Star Wars: The Last Jedi are here and it seems we can expect the highly anticipated sequel to debut at the North American box office with a whopping $215 million. That means it will beat Jurassic World for the second highest opening weekend of all-time and the movie will then sit behind only Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
That earned $247.9 million back in 2015 and went on to gross $936.6 million domestically. Jurassic World, meanwhile, made $208.8 million but the signs seem to be pointing to The Last Jedi landing somewhere in the middle. Of course, rave reviews and positive word of mouth could push it higher.
Apparently, the ever-growing fanbase and hype surrounding the trailers is what's pushed this number up and Rian Johnson's involvement has reportedly "inspired a strong sense of encouragement among fans." We don't know when reviews for the movie will go live but based on previous years, it will be days before Star Wars: The Last Jedi is released to avoid any spoiler leaks. Are you guys excited?
