Avatar Breaks the $1 Billion Mark!

James Cameron's return to the silver screen keeps getting more impressive, beating both The Dark Knight and Spider-Man in international box office gross.

For the third weekend in a row, Avatar conquered at the box office. This last weekend's take, $68.3 million in the US and $133.5 million from foreign markets, has pushed past the $1 billion worldwide barrier.

After only 17 days in domestic distribution, the film has grossed $352.1 million. It is now only $48 million away from crossing the $400 million domestic mark.

Here are the top five highest domestic (US) grossing films:

1. Titanic - $600.7 million
2. The Dark Knight - $533.3 million
3. Star Wars - $460.9 million
4. Shrek 2 - $441.2 million
5. E.T. - $435.1 million


And here are the top three highest international grossing films:

1. Titanic - $1,842,879,955
2. The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King - $1,119,110,941
3. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest - $1,066,179,725


Avatar now holds the #4 spot with $1,018,811,000 worldwide.

MPP - I've seen Avatar in both IMAX 3-D and conventional 3-D. Mr. Cameron was right, it truly is a revolutionary film. My only concern is how the hell I'm going to be able to enjoy watching it at home after seeing it in theaters!
