Avatar is already available on Blu-ray, but only in 2D. Not exactly the same is it? While a 3D version was released with certain Panasonic TV's, your only chance of now nabbing a copy is to pay upwards of $100 on eBay. Thankfully, a retail version is set to be released worldwide very soon. There's currently no word on whether there will be any additional special features and the release date and price are also still under wraps, but it seems likely that it will hit sometime around Christmas.
