AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER - First Look At Kate Winslet's Na'vi Leader, Ronal, Revealed

Anticipation for our imminent return to Pandora in James Cameron's Avatar sequel has increased significantly following the release of that stunning first trailer, and we now have a couple of new images spotlighting one of the movie's debuting characters.

Officially released behind-the-scenes photos from The Way of Water showed Kate Winslet in a mo-cap suit, which obviously suggested that her character would be Na'vi. Now, Empire Magazine has confirmed as much with their latest cover and a new still.

Winslet will play Ronal, the co-leader of the Metkayina tribe, who the Academy Award-winning actress describes as “deeply loyal and a fearless leader." "Even in the face of grave danger, and with an unborn baby on board, she still fights for what she holds most dear. Her family and their home,” she adds.

The cover sees Ronal taking to the skies with her fangs bared, while the image finds the Na'vi warrior a little calmer as she stands alongside (presumably) her co-leader.

You can check out both in the thread below.

Set more than a decade after the events of the first film, Avatar: The Way of Water begins to tell the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri, and their kids), the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure. Directed by James Cameron and produced by Cameron and Jon Landau, the film stars Zoe Saldana, Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Cliff Curtis, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Edie Falco, Jemaine Clement and Kate Winslet.

Avatar: The Way of Water is set to hit theatres on December 16th, 2022.

Looks so dated. Have zero interest in watching any new avatar movies. He should’ve just done a sequel to Titanic. Lol

I hope this brings back 3d tvs in some capacity. They still make disc's worldwide, just not in the US. I know the good projectors still have it, but still. Only Jim can push the bar on tech, leaving off where George took it.

@Moriakum - well it wasn't really in Space. Dances with Wolves on Pandora makes more sense

Got to see the trailer for this in front of Top Gun (Cruise's message was nice too), and after that trailer I really wanne see the whole movie on the big screen too now.

The main thing I like about the first movie is how stunningly beautiful it was, and it looks like it's gonna be no different with this one. Especially with the new environments and characters Jim's introducing.

@bkmeijer1 - The visuals in the trailer (and just the teaser, at that) are just gorgeous.

@MosquitoFarmer - I saw the teaser at home and already thought it looked pretty good, but seeing the trailer on the big screen was just something else.

Can't wait to see more of Pandora (because that was by far the most interesting character, if we can call it that, in the original) on the big screen.
