BOOM! Posting Comic Prequel to Rise of the Planet of the Apes

BOOM! along with 20th Century Fox is presenting a prelude comics story to Rise of the Planet of the Apes that will be posted weekly through August 3rd, and lead in to the film itself. The comic is from regular POTA comics team writer Daryl Gregory and artists Damian Couceiro and Tony Parker.

"It's incredibly exciting to be a part of a new dynasty with one of the most beloved science fiction franchises of all time" said Ross Richie, BOOM! Founder and chief executive. "We're proud to be working closely with Fox to tell a prelude story in the fantastic and story-rich world of the 'Rise of the Planet of the Apes' franchise. From what I've already read and seen, I can tell you that the online prelude will be exploding with enough excitement and surprises to whet the appetites of Apes fans new and old."

Over at Apes Comics.com, Gregory writes, "...There's something about the apes universe that demands new stories. There have been POTA novels, TV shows, a film remake, and of course comics. Part of the reason is the richness of the world, and the attractive metaphor of man confronting ape -- a more primitive, yet in some ways purer form of ourselves. The original apes movies explicitly addressed the social issues of their day. Nuclear war, racism, xenophobia, sexism, class warfare... they're all there in the five movies. Some of those issues are eternal. But each generation has new concerns, and new fears, and we want to see how those would play out.... The comic you're about to read goes deeper into the world of the apes [you'll see] in that movie, especially that of one of the key characters, Bright Eyes. But like Rise of the Planet of the Apes, and like the original movies, it's really about what it means to be human. I hope you enjoy it."

So a prequel to the prequel? I mean I'm looking forward to this movie, but I have a funny feeling about how it ends.....

I think it actually is the opening of the film, based, like you said, Mala87, on that early script. What's cool about the intent of that scene — and it should play extremely well on film — is that it's designed to be the reverse of the cornfield sequence in the original Planet of the Apes, where apes on horseback were hunting humans. Now we'll see humans hunting apes and the alpha, Bright Eyes, fighting back like Taylor did.
