Chinese Military Officer calls PACIFIC RIM 'propoganda'

A Chinese military officer argues that "Pacific Rim" is nothing more than U.S. propaganda that shows Americans using smarts and technology to battle giant monsters -- while the Chinese only seem interested in eating their flesh.

In an op-ed for the PLA Daily, Zhang Jieli, an officer in the country's People's Liberation Army, warns his fellow soldiers to erect a "firewall" to prevent themselves from being influenced by American movies.

"Hollywood has always been the United States 'best propaganda machine.' The decisive battle against the monsters was deliberately set in South China Sea adjacent to Hong Kong ...The intention was to demonstrate the U.S. commitment to maintaining stability in the Asia-Pacific area and saving the mankind."

But while the American characters study the monsters and create machines to battle them, the Chinese are depicted as harvesting their bodies for food and trinkets.

Spokespeople for "Pacific Rim"s' producer Legendary Pictures and distributor Warner Bros. declined to comment, but it's worth nothing that ideology aside, "Pacific Rim" is a sizable hit in China.

I noticed how Iron Man 3 worked around China by even allowing a Chinese company to produce the movie, but Iron Man in the comics fought against communists. I guess you gotta to what you gotta do to get money.

That statement is ridiculous!!! If anything the movie shows how humanity comes together to fight a world threat. The director is Mexican, the cast come from all parts of the globe, Brittan, Australia, Japan etc. and the head of the Jaegers character was British. Plus it's a work of fiction what the hell!! Why can't people just enjoy a movie for what it is.

Agree! When I saw the movie the first time I immediately understand that was only US propaganda,of course the Chinese and Russian jagers are destroyed in 3 min when the US jager save the world, also the Australian one that's supposed to be the strongest robot is only the side-kick of 'Murica.

[frick] Yankee propaganda!
