According to Variety, early tracking of Christopher Nolan's sci-fi epic, Interstellar, puts the film on course for a $50M debut when it opens in theaters next month. Though, it will face some stiff competition from Disney's Big Hero 6, which opens during the same weekend. Interstellar cost $165M to create, coming in $10M under budget. A $50M opening would make Interstellar the fourth best opening for a Christopher Nolan-directed film. The Dark Knight Rises opened with $160M in 2012, The Dark Knight opened with $158M in 2008, Inception had a $68M debut and 2005's Batman Begins pulled in $48M in its opening frame.

Update! The Hollywood Reporter says both, Interstellar and Big Hero 6, could open closer to $60M. How much do you think Nolan's film will make in its opening weekend?

Below is the new "The Science Of Interstellar" Featurette
Official Synopsis - The adventures of a group of explorers who make use of a newly discovered wormhole to surpass the limitations on human space travel and conquer the vast distances involved in an interstellar voyage.
.
INTERSTELLAR - Directed and co-written by Christopher Nolan (“Inception,” “The Dark Knight” Trilogy), a script based on the combination of an original idea by Nolan and an existing script by Jonathan Nolan. The cast includes: Matthew McConaughey (“Magic Mike”), Anne Hathaway (“Les Miserables”), Jessica Chastain (“Zero Dark Thirty”), Bill Irwin (“Rachel Getting Married”), John Lithgow (“Rise of the Planet of the Apes”), Casey Affleck (“Gone Baby Gone”), David Gyasi (“Cloud Atlas”), Wes Bentley (“The Hunger Games”), Mackenzie Foy (“The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Parts 1 and 2”) Timothée Chalamet (TV’s “Homeland”), Topher Grace (“Spider-Man 3”), David Oyelowo (“Jack Reacher”), Ellen Burstyn (“The Exorcist”), and Michael Caine (“The Cider House Rules”.The film will be released in IMAX® and 35mm theaters on November 7, 2014.

Why? I just don't get the buzz behind this movie. It doesn't look interesting at all...

Why does it matter that it beats the opening of Batman Begins? Everything has beaten that movie in recent years... its like saying that Age Of Ultron will beat Batman Begins - its just too obvious and unnecessary.

Why Ouch?

I am getting a 2001 vibe from this film, if it is anything at all like Kubrick's masterpiece I will be pleased.

Batman Begins is almost 10 years old and it's still one of if not the best cbm. Modest box office success is still success. It doesn't matter though because that movie was great and I'm sure Interstellar will be too.

"Because Batman Begins is a Nolan film and it's normal to compare openings of past films from the same director. This isn't rocket science."

Wait is that a pun? Since Interstellar is about space and rockets and you said rocket science? Or am I reaching a bit here?

I though inception opened at 62 Million?

Anyway, beating Inception would be great considering Inception has a Bigger Star in Lead & a summer release & a solo weekend release!!
While Interstellar's Mathew McConaughey isn't Leo DiCaprio & it's November & it's got a Disney kids film opening at same time!!
60+ would be huge... If it's great (hopefully) then it can get to 300 as did Inception!!

I'm a huge fan of Nolan and he's definitely one of m favorite directors, but this film has yet to grab my attention. I still plan on watching it, but it looks a bit boring.

I can't say that I see the appeal of this one from the trailers, so really if it goes that high it's all on the draw of Nolan himself.

Heh, CBM is literally one of the only sites I've seen where the users are still debating whether they think this movie is interesting or not. Never change, guys. Never change.

I mean, Inception already beat Batman Begins by about 500 million dollars, so this isn't exactly any new ground for Nolan. Pretty much every film he releases from now on will outsell Batman Beings, Batman movie or not. That being said, I'm sill excited to see this movie and I'm still sure it will gross excellently.

Nolan's a hack. Not interested in this dry crap that most people will think is incredibly profound. At least Inception was amusing despite its clear sole intention to incite conversation about the movie itself. If an idea has to be presented to you in this way in order for you to think about it and for you to find it interesting, then please, by all means, throw your money at him. There are other movies with more profound ideas that were not written as hype-generating cash-cows. This feels like Avatar all over again. Director hype is the worst kind.

Batman Begins didn't make a lot of money due to many factors. The fact that it was rebooted just 8 years after the 1989-97 films. Many people weren't sure if it was a reboot or a prequel. People also weren't sure if they wanted to see another Batman film after Batman and Robin.
