Last we heard Universal had abandoned it's planned multi-platform adaptation of Stephen King's epic Dark Tower saga. But evidently Brian Grazer, screenwriter Akiva Goldsman and director Ron Howard are still confident that the project will see the light of day now that the 140 million budget has been reduced and the script reworked. Glazer revealed the following to The Playlist earlier today..

“We found a way to cut out $45 million out of the budget without changing the scope and actually giving it a good ending,” Grazer said, suggesting a heavily re-worked approach. “In the $140 million draft, the ending wasn’t quite as satisfying. Now, we’ve got $45 million, $50 million out of the way and a really satisfying ending. It’s gonna get made.”

It's not clear if this revision means that the planned movie/tv series cross over approach has also been altered and there will now just be one movie to kick things off and see how they go from there. Although Glazer saying the scope won't be changed does suggest that they will be sticking to the original plan. As far as we know Javier Bardem is still attached to play the lead role of Roland "The Gunslinger" Deschain.
