It was crap IMO! Matt Smith is a shit actor as well - he was only in the episode for maybe a minute but based on what I saw they've made a huge mistake casting him as the next Doctor!!

Did anyone else cringe at the pathetic scene with John Barrowman? The whole thing was only saved by Tennant's and Cribbins' brilliant acting!

@Josh, The barrowman scene was awful! RTD needed to get in one last gay reference though.

@josh- Nah man he's actually a pretty good actor. I've seen him i other things and I think he's going to do a good job. Besides, Tennant needs to do other things. He's a fantastic actor so maybe this'll be his chance to rise to international stardom on the BIG-SCREEN perhaps?

I hear he wants to be the Riddler...but yes the Barrowman scene was pretty crap.

Just saw it and enjoyed. Tennant will be missed and was great in this episode. Props to Dalton and Cribbons as well. I have no idea about this new guy, but will give him a chance. The new companion is hot though!

Saw part 2, wasnt bad but i expected more from it. Give Matt Smith some time to figure out how he's gonna own the doctor. It's hard to fill the void that Tennant left.

I think Johnny Depp is a Great Actor in some roles like "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" and "Ed Wood" but he can not play everything and there are people out there that think he can, and The Riddler is one of those Characters that I never want to see Depp play, just the way Depp looks dose not even fit into Nolan's Batman Universe, David Tennant is the Perfect Riddler for the Next Film he would just have to be like the Doctor but a Narcissist, he could even keep the Accent and have a 5 O'clock shadow, I want a Smart but Creepy and almost Homeless looking Riddler and David Tennant will Bring It

Ryden: I'll definitely give him a chance but I was just really unimpressed by what I saw in those last few minutes whereas in the scene where Tennant took over, I was impressed right away! I really hope Smith proves me wrong though!!

I think that the one thing I'll be most glad of is that with Davies leaving the show we might get a little less of the gay references - I mean, Doctor Who passing Barrowmans character a note saying - "His name is Alonso" was not only an idiotic scene but a waste of what could have been The Doctor convincing Jack to reform Torchwood or something!!

Guys, check out my MS. MARVEL Fan Cast!!!

Gonna miss Tennant. Wasn't a fan of the show until he showed up. I'll give the new guy a try. The show has great writers and directors so lets see.

As for the last 15 minutes of the show as the Doctor said goodbye to everyone, the wife and I were both choked up.

Oh, and I liked Billy Piper and I don't care who knows it.

I for one was EXTREMELY disappointed with 'The End of Time' - it made no sense whatsoever (as most RTD stories do). There are so many, but I've picked a few issues to illustrate my point:

1. The Master's 'return' - a 'time-wimely, wibbley-wobbley' ceremony that looked more akin to an episode of 'Charmed' than it did for 'Dcotor Who'. RTD - I understand you're going for effect, but kids these days aren't as simple as you'd think. Even my 10-year-old godson was like 'WTF?!' Kids are a LOT more sophisticated than Davies apparently gives them credit for.

2. The whole 'super-Master'/energy pluse bit - The Master can fly and shoot beams of energy through his hands? ...Really? ....REALLY?!! Davies, once again you push the envelope of sci-fi BS to go for the 'all-out' cool effect (which in truth, wasn't that cool). You try to explain that through some half-assed logic of the Master 'burning through his life-energy' (oh yeah, real 'SCIENTIFIC' there Russell). Did anyone mention to you that the first part of SciFi is 'SCIENCE'?

3. The return of the Timelords - OK, on paper this is a BRILLIANT idea, but leave it up to RTD to SCREW UP the actual execution. The Time War was sealed via a time lock - nobody in, nobody out for all eternity. There's only been one to do it (Dalek Kaan) and it nearly killed him and drove him insane. So tell me then how could the good President of the High Council sent a diamond from the past to present Earth THROUGH a time lock just by throwing it? If it's that bloodly easy, why didn't he just jump through as well? RTD - it's called LOGIC, and you need to start applying it to your plots.

4. Thr Doctor's 'leap of destiny' - OK, so the Doctor jumps from a flying spaceship, falls hundreds of feet, crashes through a glass ceiling and smashes onto a stone floor... and DOES NOT die/regenerate. Again with the 'WTF?!' Russell, I'd like to take the time to point to an episode of the classic series called 'Logopolis' (maybe you've seen it since you claim to be a fan). In it the good Doctor falls a couple of hundred feet from a radio telescope tower. Upon impact, he REGENERATES! You see, it's a little thing called 'PHYSICS' (I know, I know, again with that whole 'science' thing). From the height that the Doctor jumped in your story, he would be traveling at teminal velocitiy (about 120 mph) when he crashed though the plate glass and slammed into the ground. Now it's POSSIBLE (though not probable) that he could have survived the impact, but not to the point where he's able to get up and bounce around like he did.

Now I will be eternally grateful to RTD for bringing back my all-time favorite scifi show as a child, BUT... in a way I'm glad to see him go. As a writer, his plots are a bit non-sensical. With plot holes big enough to drive a truck trough, it's better to hand the reigns to someone who's a bit more 'realistic'. Moffat has the attention to detail to bring the show back to it's SCIENCE fiction roots (thought I'm unsure about his selection for David Tennant's replacement - Matt Smith). I know this is petty, but is it just me or does Matt Smith remind anyone of Eric Stoltz's character in 'Mask'? Granted there was only about 2 minutes of Mr. Smith's performance to judge, but I saw NOTHING to distinguish himself from David Tennant (in fact, it looked like he was trying to copy David's regeneration performance). Who knows if Mr. Smith is truly 'Doctor-worth'? Only time will tell...

loganoneil. If you don't like it don't watch. I personally think a gay hero is great. Too bad your homophobia got the best of you. The other part of Sci Fi is FICTION. If you can believe there is an alien Doctor ready to save the world a time traveling tardis disguised as a police box, you can suspend your disbelief to enclose the rest of it. Moffat will be much more to your liking, after all he is hetero.
loganoneil
loganoneil - 1/3/2010, 2:27 PM
Artistwife - When the HELL did I say ANYTHING about any homosexual aspects of the show, or of RTD?! I have NO PROBLEM with anything regarding issues of orientation (I get a chuckle out of Capt. Jack's omni-sexual persona)! What I WAS commenting on the believeability of Davies' writing (did you even READ my post?!)! I have been a fan of 'Doctor Who' for over 30 years now, so I think I have a right to express my opinions on how the show is going (this is a PUBLIC forum after all). It's more than just 'suspension of disbelief' here, it's about having plots that don't have holes the size of mack trucks that concern me! It's bad enough that the classic series had to deal with (usually) terrific scripts and cheesy effects (BBC budgets), but now to have a reverse is almost worse! I don't care if RTD, Moffat, Tennant, Smith or WHOMEVER is straight, gay, bi, tri or whatever-sexual (it's none of ANYONE'S business). I only care about the quality of a program I've worshipped since I was a wee time-tot... so if you don't like it, PISS OFF!!!!

JoshWilding - 1/3/2010, 2:35 PM
loganoneil: I completely agree with each of your points! I think the fact that Smith's scene at the end was such a pathetic imitation of Tennant's regeneration was why I was left so unimpressed by his performance! I really enjoyed watching the classic repeats of Doctor Who when I was younger and was glad to see it back but the whole shgow has been fairly poor all round for me.

artistwife: It was actually me who pointed out the gay scene at the end - firstly, I think that a scene like that is not appropriate for a show that is for the majority watched by a younger audience and I am not homophobic but over the past few years RTD has gone way over the top with homosexual innuendo's where they are not needed - nothing wrong with a gay hero but its not something that needs to be rammed down the audience's throat because the show's creator happens to also be gay. If Moffat brings an end to all that, then I for one am glad!!

@Logan, You my friend are man of great wordsmanship! (I'm crap at words so 'wordsmanship' may not even be a real word) You have said everything I wanted to say but have been unable to! Congrats!

@Artistwife, It was me who made a gay refrence btw. I'm completely unhomophobic and looking back my comment may have been construed that way but it was not meant to be. I was merely commenting that RTD seems to HAVE to drop something in everywhere he can!

@Josh, Looks like the both of us are taking the wrap for the gay refrence! I think that scene was a terrible waste of an opportunity to make Jack do something worthwhile rather than a quick shag in a locker room!

TheAnswer: Lol, well I started it! :P I loved the first two seasons of Torchwood and vowed never to watch it again after they killed off my two favourite characters at the end of S2! I wasnt all that impressed by Children of Earth but the scene in Doctor Who was the perfect chance for The Doctor to get Jack out of a bar and back to being a hero...instead he helps him pick up a man!? Even if it had been a woman, I would still be pissed off at what a wasted scene that was!!

loganoneil - 1/3/2010, 2:56 PM
Answer/Josh - Thanks guys for your support...

Josh24 - Really? I though 'Children' was BRILLIANT! I'm still waiting to see how they work everything back in with 'Torchwood'. Jack's OBVIOUSLY got to come back, but back to what? Yeah, Gwen's still there but no one else - plus no Hub! Did you catch the Martha/Mickey nod in 'End of Time'? Now that Martha's free-lanced from UNIT and married to Mr. 'Bad-@ss' Mickey (WOW, didn't see that one coming!), MAYBE there will be some new recruits to Torchwood! Granted, I know they won't be the same as Tosh and Owen, but it's a start... Now all they need is someone to replace Ianto who can make an excellent cup of coffee!

@Josh, I powered through Torchwood only because I feel like I'm going to miss something out that'll matter in Doctor Who. I actually really liked Children of Earth but that may have been Peter Capaldi being AWESOME as usual!

Btw, Who did you think that Woman was that kept speaking to Wilf was? Think it might have been his daughter or Romana? Maybe his wife?

LOGAN: It was ok, I just found it all a bit anti-climatic! I thought that the Martha/Mickey stuff was great and I'd love to see them both as new recruits to Torchwood!

TheAnswer: Capaldi was definitely great as usual but overall I just felt a bit disappointed by the whole thing! There were some great moments but I can think of a lot of Torchwood episodes from the first two seasons that were overall a lot better to be honest! Maybe its just because Tosh and Owen's deaths made me furious, lol!

To be honest, I'm not an expert on Doctor Who continuity as I cant really remember the older episodes and I've never really been hooked on the current series - if I had to hazard a guess though, I'd say it was his mother!

There was an aire of mystery with the classic series (especially with the McCoy era). It was hinted (about as sublty as clubbing a baby harp seal) that the Doctor was '...oh so much more that just another Timelord' (implying he's either an or becomes an Eternal, or having something directly to do with Rassilon himself). To have the 'lady-in-white' as his mother seems to takes away from the might and mystery of the Doctor's unrevealed past. If they do go that route, I'll be sorely dissapointed.

@ArrionShadow, Erm... What?!
loganoneil
loganoneil - 1/3/2010, 4:06 PM
Answer - I think Arrion is referring to Matt Smith and his rather 'youthful' appearance (though in my opinion, he looks more like Eric Stolz in the movie 'Mask' but with better hair!). Arrion - don't worry, Matt Smith may look emo now, but (trust me) after his new wardrobe change, the only think you'll be thinking is 'university professor nerd'!

HannibalSmith - Timothy Dalton is an ACTOR and 'Doctor Who' is one of the hottest shows in the UK right now. Any actor would jump at the chance to be on that show. Rumor has it that SIR Patrick Stewart (aka Capt. Picard / Professor X) was/is in talks to appear on the show as the reoccuring character 'the Meddling Monk' from the classic series (thought I don't know how those talks are getting along).
