Ahead of the movie's world premiere at the TIFF tomorrow, Warner Bros. (via Vanity Fair) has released the first full clip from Denis Villeneuve's Dune.
The footage spotlights a familiar scene from early on in Frank Herbert's novel, as Paul Atreides' (Timothée Chalamet) weapons master Gurney Halleck (Josh Brolin) instigates an intense training session with his young lord. Despite not being "in the mood," Paul manages to best the battle-grizzled veteran... or so he thinks.
“The most important thing about Paul is that he’s trying to find his place in the world,” Villeneuve explains. “Paul is supposed to be a wise one, someone that is older than his age in his mind, but still has the body of a 16-year-old."
"There’s a little bit of a Three Musketeers thing about Dune where we have teachers around him that are very alpha male,” he adds. "They are Paul’s only friends. Paul was raised as a kid surrounded by adults who are teaching him.”
You can check out a few second from the clip in the player below, but you'll have to click the link to see the full thing as VF don't allow embeds. We'll update as soon as a YouTube version is available.
We found out that the sci-fi adaptation had been pushed back from October 1 to October 22 last month. A recent poster confirmed that movie is still set to debut simultaneously in theaters and on HBO Max, and we also got word that it will have its out-of-competition world premiere on Friday, September 3 at the Toronto International Film Festival.
For those unfamiliar with the source material, Dune follows the Atreides family as they relocate to the desolate planet of Arrakis to assume control of the production of the most valuable resource in the galaxy, the Spice Melange. Unfortunately, an act of treachery soon makes an outcast of The Duke Atreides' youngest son Paul, and he must accept his destiny as a powerful prophet of the Arrakis natives known as The Fremen.
