SDCC Panel Featuring DUNE: PART TWO And GODZILLA x KONG: THE NEW EMPIRE Canceled Due To SAG-AFTRA Strike

As a result of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, Hollywood has come to a very sudden halt. The film and television industry could be shut down until the Fall or beyond, and while that's going to inevitably result in release date delays, it's also had a significant impact on this month's San Diego Comic-Con.

Variety (via SFFGazette.com) confirms Legendary Entertainment had been planning a massive Hall H panel which would have featured first looks at highly anticipated movies Dune: Part Two and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.

Based on past experience, those previews (or at least shortened versions) were almost certainly going to be released online simultaneously. Now, though, there's a good chance the studio will wait for a more opportune moment to showcase these 2024 blockbusters.

Among the titles we are still anticipating being highlighted in San Diego are Paramount+s Star Trek offerings, Harley Quinn, Masters of the Universe: Revolution, The Walking Dead franchise, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem. However, no cast members will be in attendance.

Actors aren't allowed to promote upcoming titles due to the strike and, even before it was made official, Marvel Studios and DC Studios confirmed they won't be part of the annual event.

"Dune: Part Two: will explore the mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a warpath of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family," reads the synopsis. "Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee."

As for the Godzilla vs. Kong sequel, the synopsis promises "an all-new cinematic adventure, pitting the almighty Kong and the fearsome Godzilla against a colossal undiscovered threat hidden within our world, challenging their very existence – and our own."

"The epic new film will delve further into the histories of these Titans, their origins, and the mysteries of Skull Island and beyond," it continues, "while uncovering the mythic battle that helped forge these extraordinary beings and tied them to humankind forever."

Dune: Part Two will be in theaters on November 3, while Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is scheduled for a March 24, 2024 big screen debut.

@ShellHead - so if strikers started saying we should be allowed to burn babies, are you gonna go against unions (by your logic) or are you gonna admit to burning babies?

@Origame

Why would anyone be against the SAG or WGA strike?
Origame
Origame - 7/16/2023, 12:12 PM
@regularmovieguy - ...because they're being unreasonable? Like denying the 4% pay increase that was offered to them in negotiations after the 5% they asked for? Or the studios promising to keep AI out of the writers room for now but want the conversation open in case of future advances and regulations?

Oh and analysts are saying the cost of the strike will be passed onto consumers. So yeah. Plenty of reasons to be against it.

@Origame - yeah and that happening onto consumers is obviously the underpaid actors' fault. LMAO you're a bot. how must it feel to betray yourself every day?
