When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes—a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)—who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

Starring Charlie Hunnam (TV’s “Sons of Anarchy”), Idris Elba (“Thor”), Rinko Kikuchi (“The Brothers Bloom”), Charlie Day (“Horrible Bosses”), and Ron Perlman (the “Hellboy” films), Pacific Rim will be released on July 12, 2013.

Michael Bay wishes Guillermo would rip them off, that'll mean the Transformers were good movies.

I still think that (whatever reason it is that we have to use robots instead of missiles fired miles away) should have been the focus of this first movie or at least the ad campaign. "We face a monster we cannot destroy without killing thousands". First half of the film is "omg, what do we do" and the second half solution is building giant robots.

The second film in this obvious new franchise gets all the character cards and promos featuring giant robots vs monsters.

Can't kill them with existing weapons? Can't control the bots remotely? Can't control them with just one person? It's in need of a multi-layer explanation before it's even released. It's tough for me to buy in to a film where logic holes are obvious before I even sit down at the theater.

TheMysteriousStranger - Except I can actually tell what's going on in the action scenes in Pacific Rim and it doesn't seem to be filled with ridiculous toilet humor that can only appeal to the lowest common denominator.

Del Toro makes great films...LOL

Hellboy 2 was an absolute mess. As much as I enjoyed the first film, the second just felt like a Del Toro circus of weird crap happening everywhere. Other words it was as if he just threw story telling out the window in favor for visual fanfare. The ending was pure crap, I don't know how it would lead into a sequel. I am glad the Hellboy films are gone for now, Del Toro made the right choice otherwise the 3rd film would have just stretched it too far.

Think about how big these robots are compared to bays transformers. If mighty morphin power rangers came out in the noughties you got your big screen mega zords right there.

Why does Australia get the most badass robot? Stryker Eureka is fu.cking awesome.

I love Gypsy Danger too, but it's not as powerful, which is bullsh*t.

@TheMysteriousStranger- You do realize that those movies are based on a cartoon from the 80's that was based on a toyline from the 80's? It's not like that the idea of giant robots is entirely new. People have been making movies and TV shows around this premise for decades. Besides, why would a talented director like del Toro need to rip off a money-grubbing, chauvinistic, racist pig like Bay?

Evangelion sucks.
I really hated that show. Too reliant on "oooh mind [frick]! we're so artsy, we don't even know what we're doing!" for me.
