At the 2013 Saturn Awards, Schmoes Know caught up with Safety Not Guaranteed director Colin Trevorrow, who discusses working on Jurassic Park 4. The highly anticipated fourquel, which he's currently rewriting with Derrick Connelly, is on course for a 2015 release after being pushed off the Summer 2014 schedule. "We're writing Jurassic Park 4, and I'm directing it. It's not really that different [from Safety Not Guaranteed]. It's incredible to have Steven [Spielberg], who's done this for decades," Trevorrow says. He also assures fans that he hopes to honor the franchise, and is more concerned about that than his career ("We don't want to create a new scoop here, but we really want to honor what came before us. It's not about us, it's not about our careers..."). Watch the interview below for Trevorrow's full comments on the subject. Are you looking forward to Jurassic Park 4?

So the whole rumored storyline about them returning to the original island where they finally made it into a running theme park, some dinosaurs escape, and the main characters used tame raptors to defeat them...that was debunked, right?

Yes I'm sure the fourth film could be great. Just look at Batman & Robin, Superman 4, Star Wars 1, Fast & Furious, Terminator Salvation, and many others. All those were great...

"We don't want to create a new scoop here, but we really want to honor what came before us."

This is the wrong way to approach a new film in a franchise. You don't need to regurgitate the same story just to "stay true to it". Give us something new and fresh. Give us a reason that it exists besides just, "We're at a Jurassic Park movie! Yayy!!" Look at Star Trek if you need to know how to do it right. Consult Star Wars prequels or Indy 4 for a demonstration of what doesn't work. Am I just reading into this one sentence too much? Yes, probably.

Steven Spielburg is an anomaly to me.

Also The fast and furious movies were just as bad before the fourth, Star Wars had how many years between the third and fourth, batman forever wasnt good either, and salvation was way better than t3.

I think we should open a retirement home/graveyard for dead franchises and send this there with Terminator, X-Men, Spider-man, Transformers and stuff of the same nature, ya know like it's been played out so much that we really just don't give a rats ass sort of nature

the only thing that worries be about this movie as a fan of the series is the overuse of CGI...if they find the right balance of practical and CGI it will work...but I'm getting [frick]in' tired of computer animated monsters chasing after people...they have no depth and the last time it was done right in my opinion was in Where the Wild Things Are...Hollywood is becoming lazy...but not with movie ideas...with how they produce them...one of the only things I liked about the Batman trilogy...or the 1st Ironman...let's go back to a little '90s tech please...
