JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM Roars Past $1 Billion Worldwide

Regardless of whether it's 1993 or 2018, dinosaurs still rule the earth. After two weeks atop the domestic box office, Universal's Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom has roared past $1 billion worldwide!

Universal's Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom has officially topped $1 billion worldwide!

The J.A. Bayona-directed dinosaur blockbuster is now the thirty-fifth film in cinematic history to achieve the milestone (not adjusted for inflation) and is also the third film this year to reach the mark, following Marvel's Avengers: Infinity War ($2.037B) and Marvel's Black Panther ($1.346B).

At this time yesterday,
Fallen Kingdom, which cost approximately $170 million (not including P&A), had earned $304.8 million domestic and $700.7 million foreign, including over $245.2 million from China, for a massive worldwide collection of over $1,005,500,000. While it's unlikely to reach the record-breaking heights of its predecessor ($1.671B), it should still finish its box office run at the end of the summer as one of the top twenty highest-grossing films of all-time.

Fallen Kingdom's success is another major win for Universal Pictures as they become the second studio, after Disney, to have at least two features in three separate franchises (Fast and Furious; Despicable Me) to cross $1 billion worldwide (not accounting for inflation).

It’s been four years since theme park and luxury resort Jurassic World was destroyed by dinosaurs out of containment. Isla Nublar now sits abandoned by humans while the surviving dinosaurs fend for themselves in the jungles.

When the island’s dormant volcano begins roaring to life, Owen (Chris Pratt) and Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard) mount a campaign to rescue the remaining dinosaurs from this extinction-level event. Owen is driven to find Blue, his lead raptor who’s still missing in the wild, and Claire has grown a respect for these creatures she now makes her mission. Arriving on the unstable island as lava begins raining down, their expedition uncovers a conspiracy that could return our entire planet to a perilous order not seen since prehistoric times.

With all of the wonder, adventure and thrills synonymous with one of the most popular and successful series in cinema history, this all-new motion-picture event sees the return of favorite characters and dinosaurs—along with new breeds more awe-inspiring and terrifying than ever before. I enjoyed the movie, but 1 billion dollars? I don't think so.

I liked this one more than the first World...but that isn't saying much. They really need to step up with the next film.

"the first studio ever to have at least two features in three separate franchises"

Surely Disney already beat them to that. MCU (6), Star Wars (7 + 8, R1) and Pirates (2 + 4)

@TheOncomingStorm - Maybe it doesn't count since the former two were not originally Disney properties.

Only $1 billion.....flop

MiopTop - 7/8/2018, 12:13 AM
@raspymanic - lol it's going to breeze to 1.2 or 1.3 billion, on a 175 million production budget.

BP made 1.3 billion on a larger budget (200 million) so I guess Black Panther was a flop ?

@JokerVenom - This movie has been out in foreign markets for a while. It released in the US a few weeks after its international debut.

@JokerVenom - It's because (this may shock you) a whole lot of people don't share your opinion on the film. Well that, and “The Impossible” director JA Bayona might have had something to do with it as well.

@JokerVenom - It didn't though, did it? Infinity War made it within 11 days and I believe this made it in 13?
