The marketing campaign for Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures' Pacific Rim is now underway, with a viral campaign ongoing and a trailer being released next week. The Guillermo del Toro-directed sci-fi epic, which focuses on giant robots vs. giant monsters, won't be released until next July, but a sequel is already officially in the works. Del Toro previously stated that he was discussing a possible follow-up with screenwriter Travis Beacham, but it won't be his next project. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Beacham has been hired by Legendary to write the script for the Pacific Rim sequel. Del Toro will co-write the script, although it's currently not clear if he will return to helm the follow-up. He just committed to directing Legendary's haunted house film Crimson Peak, which is being eyed for a January 2014 production start. Not to mention, Del Toro is attached to many other projects, including the animated Pinocchio, Beauty & The Beast, The Strain TV pilot, and his Hulk television series for ABC. He's also discussing a Justice League Dark movie with WB titled Heaven Sent.

Pacific Rim is set to hit theaters July 12th, 2013. Do you want to see a sequel?

They'd look pretty silly then, wouldn't they, making a sequel to a film that flops?

Warner Bros are desperate for a new franchise... Not talking crap, just stating the obvious. They did this same thing with Green Lantern.

ok, but the first movie doesn't even have a trailer out yet. How do we know if we want a sequel?

I can imagine if it flops we end up with a sequel that looks more like Power Rangers and will be direct to market.

The movie isn't due until Summer next year an there already planning a sequel to an unknown franchise?

Ballsy move, Probably wont flop but will it make enough to actually budget a successful sequel?

The budget on this is already 200$ million.

@LEVITIKUZ

I agree about the third Hell Boy movie. It would definItely be as good as Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy, and maybe almost as good as Fox's original X-Men trilogy.

I'm afraid, if he had to dig for the financing himself, he would put the effort into his Mountains of Madness movie first. : (

Legendary has a pretty good track record, so long as the quality of Pacific Rim is more akin to Dark Knight than to Wrath of the Titans.

@KaneVonDoom

Green Lantern was solely produce by WB not Legendary Pictures who have better track record when moving forward with sequels

After Green Lantern, the precocious sequel thing has lost all meaning. Not that it won't be awesome, though.

I agree that the Hellboy Trilogy could be better than Dark Knight Trilogy. For one thing it doesn't take itself so seriously, so it's easy to overlook how meticulously made it is. I just rewatched the two of them and they're both enirely, flawlessly perfect. Te first one, in particular is such a [frick]ing classic. Every moment and detail is inspired.
Hellboy III. Helboy has twins. Bring.

^ ^ Having kissed Del Toro's sizeable ass, I must also admit that The Dark Knight Rises just gets better with every subsequent viewing and I've only seen it three times.

Even though this is my most hyped up movie for next year I am a little bit nervous that legendary is pulling a green lantern. I'm sure this movie will be better obviously but still it's a bit pre mature, I do hope this movie ends up being as awesome as I want it to be I love giant monster movies and we haven't had a good one since cloverfield

Pacific Rim is definitely to be the most anticipated & spectacular movie of 2013!Who the hell not like Robot fighting Monster movie if the movie well made especially by talented Director like Guilermo Deltoro..This movie not like Battleship because battleship take place on the sea and just involve those alienship vs Battleship only..Audience would be bored to see kind of limited action and space you know...Pacific Rim if different,its a global disaster and lot of story telling and places can take..that's why..it at least can made US800million onwards..

Greenlighting a sequel isn't as impressive as it sounds. All it means is a script is beng written, which is paying 1 maybe 2 people. Production wouldn't even be considered until after the 1st one comes out. Know how often a script is written then thrown out?
