Legendary Pictures Moving Forward With PACIFIC RIM Sequel
Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim won't be released until next summer, but Legendary are already moving forward with a sequel, hiring Travis Beacham (who worked on the first film) to write the script. Read on for more details, including whether or not del Toro will return to direct.

The marketing campaign for Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures' Pacific Rim is now underway, with a viral campaign ongoing and a trailer being released next week. The Guillermo del Toro-directed sci-fi epic, which focuses on giant robots vs. giant monsters, won't be released until next July, but a sequel is already officially in the works. Del Toro previously stated that he was discussing a possible follow-up with screenwriter Travis Beacham, but it won't be his next project. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Beacham has been hired by Legendary to write the script for the Pacific Rim sequel. Del Toro will co-write the script, although it's currently not clear if he will return to helm the follow-up. He just committed to directing Legendary's haunted house film Crimson Peak, which is being eyed for a January 2014 production start. Not to mention, Del Toro is attached to many other projects, including the animated Pinocchio, Beauty & The Beast, The Strain TV pilot, and his Hulk television series for ABC. He's also discussing a Justice League Dark movie with WB titled Heaven Sent.
