IGN (via SFFGazette.com) has revealed that Superman Returns and Legends of Tomorrow star Brandon Routh is set to guest star in an upcoming episode of NBC's Quantum Leap reboot.

The former Man of Steel will play Alexander Augustine, the father of Addison (Caitlin Bassett) in an episode that's been titled "S.O.S." In that, Ben Ben (Raymond Lee) leaps onto a naval warship during war games in 1989, where he must not only navigate a dangerous rescue mission but also contend with his commanding officer, Alexander.

You'll find a first look at Routh in the series below (more images can be found at the site), and the actor certainly sounds excited about joining the revival.

"Growing up watching Quantum Leap, it was an honor to portray such a pivotal character in Addison’s life," he tells the site. "Ray and Caitlin are a fantastic duo and I loved being a part of the QL team. As an Iowan, it was also exciting to film on the USS Iowa!"

The episode will air on February 27, so we won't have long to wait before seeing what he brings to the table.

Routh may be best known to many of your for playing Superman, but he'd return to the DC Universe as part of The CW's Arrowverse where he starred as Ray Palmer/The Atom. You may also remember him from Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, Chuck, The Rookie, and his voiceover work in the likes of LEGO DC Super-Villains and Call of Duty: Ghosts.

Quantum Leap premiered last September and was renewed for a second season in December. It's been a hit with fans of the sci-fi franchise and Routh coming on board for an episode is great news.

Have you been tuning into Quantum Realm

Im really liking this new version, and the inclusion of Magic from the classic episode where Sam saves his brother https://youtube.com/shorts/IwYdGdHoY1Y?feature=share

Very happy to see more of Brandon on TV. I should give it a go to this show, it seems like a very fun sci-fi series.

Arrowverse/DCTV vets have been doing more TV lately. Jon Cryer (Lex) and Donald Faison (Booster Gold) will be doing a sitcom for NBC really soon as well whereas just hours ago Joel McHale (Starman) debuted a new sitcom called Animal Control, it looks really funny.

(This is without also mentioning that Carlos Valdes aka Cisco will appear soon in a TV musical show from Hulu this year)
