Back in 2010, Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures acquired the film rights to Electronic Arts and BioWare's highly successful video game series Mass Effect, which has spawned other forms of media such as novels and comic books. Mark Protosevich (Thor) previously worked on the script, with Thomas Tull, Jon Jashni, Ari and Avi Arad producing. We haven't heard much about the adaptation recently, despite the third game being released earlier this year. But now, Variety reports that Legendary are moving forward with their big screen take on Mass Effect. According to the site, the studio have hired scribe Morgan Davis Foehl (who was previously set to script the alien invasion thriller Alien Sleeper Cell) to work on the Mass Effect movie's screenplay. Foehl has yet to have one of his scripts produced (with Mass Effect being his most high profile project to date), and has also penned Summit Entertainment's Top Cow adaptation Crosshair.

Despite being an adaptation of the video games, it has previously been stated that Mass Effect will have an entirely original story, rather than adapting a storyline from one of the games. Legendary Pictures are also adapting another video game series in the form of World Of Warcraft.
