Touted as "this year's District 9", Monsters is a different take on the stereotypical "aliens-on-the-loose" tale. Produced by an unknown British writer-director, Gareth Edwards.

The director of the LA Film Festival had this to say about it...
It's a really small production. He (Edwards) wrote it, directed it, did all the effects for it himself on his computer in his basement. The story is about a space probe that crash landed on the Mexico border with the U.S. and it was carrying spores. Now, six years later there's this huge swath of land that is off limits, it's no man's land because it's infected with giant, neon squid aliens. There's a war photographer, a young guy, who is down in Mexico and is given the task of getting his daughter's boss back up to the States and, for various reasons, they have to go through the infected area. The movie is so smart and intelligent. Instead of making decisions that everyone else would make, Edwards makes surprising choices that are exactly right. What 'Let the Right One In' did for vampire movies, this one does for the 'boy-meets-girl-meets-alien' movie."

erick- what? well all i have to say is a movie is a movie you don't need to know how to write or read to understand a movie or have a high education because a movie explain it self to you. and the reason i didn't like d9 is because i found it boring from beginning to end the best part of the movie i found was when it ended luckily i didn't have to pay to see it cause i would waste my money in a shit movie.

@CBM- REALLY???? I tried to post something about the human centipede way back even tho it had no cbm reation and u took it down even tho its reasonble to assume people who like cbms could enjoy some original horror ideas as well. yet you post this???? Firstly I'll admit them ovie looks good and I read its got like a 15,000 dollar budget which is insane.. but this is no cbm and this trailer has been online for well over a month or 2.

@everyone- If you want your source on time for horror and scifi go to bloodydisgusting.com that's where I found this a very long time ago.

Thanks for the heads up CBM! This looks and sounds fantastic! :) It's amazing just how good a lot of these lower budget movies are...British horror, Eden Lake with Michael Fassbender, is another good example. It's without a doubt one of the best (and scariest) movies I've ever seen!

@flames809 - Ha! You are cracking me up. In earlier articles you revealed that you didn't know what Dune was, you don't like Dr. Strange but you've never read his comics, and in this one you reveal you don't like District 9. You need to stick around. You make me laugh.

@BmanHall - Oh. Well now I feel kind of bad for laughing at somebody that's mentally handicapped. I was kind of hoping he was just a tasteless idiot.

Is it just me, or did anyone else keep waiting for Yoda to raise that plane outta the Dagobah swap on the second trailer!

@JohnnySmoke - See, now that's a more logical critique of District 9. I can see where your coming from on that. However, I thought it did a great job on showing how the corporate/governmental administrators handle situations. IE, crappily.

OH NO!! GRIF likes it! That means this is going to be a horrible movie and a wste of time!

@ERICKZ: Of course everyone knows what Apartment Methanols

this looks like it will be a great movie. i wish we had alot more well made unique films that are as realistic and grounded as much as possible. bring on the monster/sci fi thriller/killeranimal flicks. and how about a splice sequel, underworld the origins of corvinus, steve altens the loch, the creature from the black lagoon, and island of dr moreau, dino crisis that done kinda scary and not a action film so much, and a rsident evil remake like the first game.
JerusalemJr
JerusalemJr - 9/7/2010, 4:27 PM
Blankofthehead - I think it has to do with comic book fans being more into fantasy and sci-fi over disturbing horror. Human Centidede looks more like a Saw type of movie, not sure if there are nearly as many people who are comic fans who would be into that, especially over a standard sci-fi or fantasy. I could be wrong though, that's just how I see it.

MassExecutions- i never said i never read a Dr.strange comic i have but it was boring to me cause we all have different taste in different shits. and how am i funny?

i'm looking forward to this movie. ever since Moon we've been getting independent sci-fi films. district 9 had a strong/touching metaphor, while this seems to have about being patriotic in alien resident time.
