We found out last year that 10 Cloverfield Lane director Dan Trachtenberg would take the helm of a new Predator movie, and cinematographer Jeff Cutter recently shared an Instagram post announcing that principal photography had wrapped. Now, we have some very interesting updates.
As part of the Disney+ Day announcements, it's been revealed that the prequel film won't actually be titled Skulls, and is officially known as Prey! The project has also been given a tentative summer 2022 release date, and is expected to debut on the Hulu streaming service.
Legion actress Amber Midthunder will play the lead, and we recently learned that Dakota Beavers and Dane DiLiegro - a 6 foot 8 basketball player who is most likely playing the Predator - have also joined the cast. The story will take place "in the world of the Comanche Nation 300 years ago, following Naru, a skilled female warrior who fiercely protects her tribe against a highly evolved alien predator."
Shane Black's underwhelming 2018 effort, The Predator, seemed to put the sci-fi action film series to rest for a while, but it looks like Disney is determined to breath new life into the franchise. The script is being written by Patrick Aison, whose producer/writer credits include Kingdom, Jack Ryan and Treadstone.
The first - and by far the best - Predator movie came out back in 1987 and starred Arnold Schwarzenegger as the leader of a group of mercenaries who find themselves hunted by a merciless alien creature.
