Next summer Legendary Studios will unleash the monster movie known as Pacific Rim into theaters. Over at Fear Net, an interview was posted with screenwriters Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton, below are the most important things they had to say.

"It's giant monsters versus giant robots, and Guillermo del Toro is the only person who could bring it to you. That was an amazing experience, because we read the script, and so we went in knowing what the producers and studio wanted us to do; and we went in and met Guillermo, and he started showing us the tests by ILM. They were just mind-blowing. I think they'll probably show something at Comic-Con 2012. Because they should be done by then, or close to done by then. I'm telling you, it's gonna rule Hall H when Guillermo, the king of geeks, comes out and shows some of the stuff he's shot. People are gonna be blow away."

"Bring dad, bring the kids, bring everybody, and hold on."

"This is a PG movie." "Most of his stuff is pretty edgy, for the most part. Nothing below PG-13 that I can think of. So this is his sort of four-quadrant movie. But it's got all the traits of a Guillermo movie, with the monsters and the younger characters and the things that go bump in the night… It's pretty great."

Excited? You should be, I have a feeling this is going to be the surprise hit of 2013. If the film succeeds, it may give the studio an incentive to get started with production on Godzilla. Anyways, for the rest of the short interview, hit the link at the bottom.

Pacific Rim stomps and blasts its way into theaters next summer.

I don't mind that it'll be PG. I still think this is gonna be absolutely epic. Mean waiting to see awesome giant Mechs on screen forever.

*Seen continuously on screen

i.e. Matrix Revolutions scene with Mechs was too short imo, Avatar we barely saw them and they were too small.

Nothing wrong with PG. After all, GODZILLA 2000 was PG.

I was thinking like an Evangelion movie, with sexy girls and naughty jokes, but just saw Transboremers and now makes sense.
PG movie + Giant robots= Family fun
PG 13 Movie + Shia Labeouf + Giant robots= Total crap

It's always interesting when someone connected with the movie says "it will be amazing!" etc. .. I would hope that they wouldn't say "it will be crap!"... What I'd like to know is whether del Toro took any cues from the Getter Robo G days and if so, in what ways? Was he trying to be faithful to an existing genre or just doing his own thing?

Pacific Rim is PG-13, not PG.

Del Toro recently said so himself.

I bet it will be still great even it is PG-13
I doubt the producer company (what ever it was again) would have gave them the budget for this film if it would be just for adults!

Del Toro is probably just trying to get himself some credibility in the eyes of Universal so that they let him make At The Mountains of Madness with the big budget.
That shit is going to be awesome when it finally comes! And just for adults!

I've read the script. It's fantastic. My most anticipated film of 2013 by a longshot.

Ppphhtttt...did somebody say Del Toro was going to make weak minded crap? GUILLERMO del Toro? Yeah, right.

This movie is going to be fantastic, and PG or PG-13 can work for big monster/robot action. Its the smaller, personal, mano-a-mano action you can't keep PG. For a sterling example, please see 'Wolverine'.

I am hoping the footage that they show at Comic Con alone is enought incentive to see Godzilla increase the pace of production to have a similar release date. Or maybe they are throwing directors in and out of Godzilla knowing they want Del Toro when he is done with this but do to contract set up they have to be in the midst of production right now.

Who knows...wishful thinking as a Godzilla fan.
