Klingons in Star Trek 2?

Rumors abound that the Klingons will be showing up in the sequel to JJ Abrams' Star Trek, which hits theatres in summer 2012. In an interview with IGN, creature designer Neville Page addressed that possibility and discussed ridged forehead and non-ridged forehead Klingons.

On the latter issue, he says, "It’s almost like treating it as if I were a Klingon designing the human race. How would I go about it? And then I think about it from the perspective of an alien looking at human beings: some are lighter in skin color and some are darker. But you would go, those people with their eyes with that flap of skin there and then those people who are really tall and sinewy. But there are different physiological ticks even in the Klingon world. Maybe they are all brown, but the ridges are the African ones, the fewer ridges are the Asian ones. I don’t know, but I always feel the necessity to justify and rationalize even if I can’t actually. It just gives me something to work from.

"My approach [in the sequel] would be to try and come up with something that’s a unique look but is still a Klingon, obviously. Because I think if I did them really tall like say 9′ and instead of brown made them blue, I might get into a little trouble! But I would try think about them as real deal people — and I know other designers have — but really give them a history and a motivation. Understand why they’re dressed the way they are. Understand their rationale for long hair and facial hair. Make sense of those physical features which they typically have, which are the ridged foreheads."

Klingons make the most sense.

even though its a new timeline, i still don't think we'll see the Borg since they're more Next Generation villains.

I love how he's looking at it.
I mean even in Aavtar (Like or not) there are subtle diffrences in the Navi from the various tribes.

And DC has the Pale and Green Martians
which makes me wonder are their Kryptonians of other colors. I mean if they lived on a planet with a red sun Darker colors should be evolutionary the norm.

They were in the last movie also, but only in helmets, and only in the deleted scenes.

Ignorance knows no bounds. The Klingons look different because there was an offset virus that Dr. Arik Soong (great grandfather to DATA's creator) was trying to enhance the human species by genetic experiments. Then the Klingon Impire got a hold of this experiment. That is why u seen Klingons with no Ridges in the orginial Star Trek. NOt to mention this dramaticly shorten the life span. By the time TNG came around Picar/Worf's timeframe it had already been cured hence ridges are back.

This sounds like FOX--change things that are already well established. WE already have to deal with an FFFFF.... alternate timeline.

well Arminies.... suck you right back.... lol.... just kiddin. I loved enterprise too.... even more than the next generation!! and voyager was even better!

so..... I loved the first star trek movie looking forward too the next..... but.... I'm a little bit bored with klingons, cardassians, or vulcans.... I would love to see the hirogen, species 8472(or something like that) and the borg! and yeah.... I know it messes up the serie..... but I don't think there will be another 48 movies before we end up there!

Arminies you're absolutely right. I was just thinking the same thing. They already explained all this. This guy sucks.

umm 1 Problem with this.

THEY Explained why Klingon's have the ridges, why some dont, and why some are huge on their forehead.

voyager and enterprise both sucked, the original series, even with the bad effects was a hundred times better than both of those series. Captain Kirk was the best captain his supposed predecessor Captain Archer was a PANSY!!!
Janeway was another horrible Captain. Kirk was by far the best, Picard was not bad and Sisco was pretty good.
The reboot did a good job of staying to the characters

I like the idea of having Klingons in the next movie. They are such an integral part of the whole Star Trek Universe. Ridges on the forehead or not....hmmm...I say absolutely yes, but find a happy medium. TOS had none at all and TNG and beyond was too much. The Klingons in Star Trek 6:The Undiscovered Country were perfect. You don't have to explain anything about ridges or no ridges. The reboot has already screwed a few things up anyway. Seriously, I don't care what a big hero the new Kirk is, NOBODY graduates from Star Fleet Academy and is promoted to captain and given the finest ship in the fleet. That's like graduating from Annapolis and being put in charge of an aircraft carrier the next day. Stupid!

The fact that Starfleet promoted the new Kirk so quickly was a little far fetched, however, he still makes a better Captain than Janeway or Archer!!!

Farris, thanks for pointing out that you are my biggest hater. It's good to know these things. And, oh how I relish the compliment -- perhaps some day I'll learn to be a real journalist with your guidance.

Actually, what would be really helpful is if you could point me in the direction of some of the interviews, articles and books you've authored lately so that I can learn by your example.

Change it! Who the frick cares? As long as it keeps the Star Trek universe alive and kicking! Probably for a new ass-kicking series! Hell yeah!

didn't they have a deleted scene where the bad guy was in a klingon jail and all the klingons had masks with ridges on them??

Star trek :-) my fave!! hehe.

Actually yes, they did have a deleted scene featuring Klingons. I can understand why it was cut because it made the Romulans (at the time) seem less enigmatic. You didint know they were miners till much later.

If they look like THIS ---->

That will be fine :-> .....

Or "this" :-P - hehe.

Farris, I have no problem with constructive criticism whatsoever -- and I'll always examine it and try to better myself as a result. But to be fair, the criticism that I cover TV shows or animated series as opposed to movies seems a bit lame.

And if you don't like my style of interviewing, I respect that. To each their own.

PLEASE READ!!! MY BADASS IDEA FOR THE NEXT MOVIE, GREATER THAN ALL, CERTAINLY BETTER THAN KHAN OR THE FRIGGIN' TRIBBLES!!!!!!
I'm posting this on multiple Trek stories for good reason. My idea for the next movie.
Start on the Klingon home world, they are drinking and training, at the same time of course, when a group of Borg cubes comes down and assimilates the whole planet, but something about the Klingon physiology makes the assimilation process not quite work right and you end up with psycho, ultra badass Klingon/Borg hybrids who then destroy all of the other Borg and take over the ships and go out to destroy all other planets because no other race is good enough to be assimilated. They get into Federation territory around the same time more Borg get there. Have the Enterprise encounter the Borg queen who gets Kirk on board and instead of assimilating him, falls in love with him(of course, Kirk's pimp hand with alien chicks is THAT strong) and they team up to defeat the K/B and she promises to leave the quadrant alone.....for now. How would that be?

^^^^^^ @ yourdaddydevillandlord lol [frick]ing hilarious and a super sick idea.... and on a side note whats up with everyone talking about how unrealistic it is that kirk was promoted soooo soon? its a [frick]ing movie!!! a science fiction movie at that!!!! about 87% of the movie is unrealistic belive it or not time travel isnt possible but hey you seemed to have no problem with that and RED MATTER? what are you stupid? just stop complaining and enjoy the movie! gosh I hate people like that, the ones who say "its soo unrealistic that superman would have a kid" but him having the abilty to fly have super strength and heat vision is totally ok....idiots

If time travel is impossible, then how do you explain the woman in the 1928 Charlie Chaplain film "The Circus" walking on the set and talking on her cell phone?

Check it out.

Now, as far the name calling goes, perhaps some of us have higher standards than to sit there in a theater and have our intelligence assaulted without having at least, something to say about it. You may see it differently than I do, however, that doesn't make either of us stupid or idiots.

Oh yes....this, being a discussion forum, isn't the place for people who just shut up and accept whatever comes down the turnpike. So why don't you settle your happy ass down and let the rest of us get on with our discussion?
