We have some huge Star Trek news for you today, as CBS All Access has ordered Star Trek: Strange New Worlds to series. Starring Anson Mount, Ethan Peck, and Rebecca Romijn as Captain Pike, Spock and Number One, the series is set to follow them, "in the decade before Captain Kirk boarded the U.S.S. Enterprise, as they explore new worlds around the galaxy."
The trio was first introduced in season two of Star Trek: Discovery, and the demand from fans to see them return has been vocal ever since. The way that season ended seemingly closed the door on that happening, so this news is bound to be welcomed by viewers.
Discovery and Star Trek: Picard executive producer Akiva Goldsman is penning the series premiere from a story written by him, Alex Kurtzman, and Jenny Lumet. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is now the fifth Trek series at the streaming service, with the others being the upcoming animated spinoff Star Trek: Lower Decks, and the untitled live-action project starring Michelle Yeoh's Philippa Georgiou.
"Fans fell in love with Anson Mount, Rebecca Romijn and Ethan Peck’s portrayals of these iconic characters when they were first introduced on Star Trek: Discovery last season," CBS All Access executive vice president and head of programming Julie McNamara said. "This new series will be a perfect complement to the franchise, bringing a whole new perspective and series of adventures to Star Trek."
Given current world events, chances are we'll be waiting for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds for a while, but this is definitely exciting news, and the franchise's future clearly lies on the small screen.
