JJ Abrams is a person synonymous with high concept storytelling and innovative platforms and release platforms, being arguably one of the most experiemental storytellers working today (one needs only look at the book S.) he has however in recent years carved out a niche for himself in revamping or rebooting flailing or dormant properties.

Be it revitalising the Mission Impossible franchise with Mission Impossible 3, creating a full in-continuity reboot of the Star Trek franchise or reintroducing Star Wars to the cinematic landscape in 2015's hughely successful The Force Awakens.

While JJ has had great success in this area he has, for the time being, decided to take a break from revisiting exisitng IP's instead endeavouring to focus on adding more original projects to his resume. In an interview with DigitalSpy Abrams spoke about this change of focus stating:

"I've written some things in the last year or so. One of them is a show we've just set up with HBO and there's something else. There were original storylines and things that I'm really excited about getting to, because I felt like I was looking to not reboot anything"

This isn't to say that the Fringe creator has become turned off by the concept of reboots as a whole, stating later:

"It allows for new filmmakers, original storylines, where (the films) connect but not in a way that they make it a remake or a literal sequel. It keeps it unexpected and keeps it fun."

We know that Abrams will presently return to the world of Star Wars, directing and co-writing the final entry in the sequel trilogy, the as yet untitled Episode IX but as previously stated his new science-fiction show Demimonde just got a series order from HBO (home of the Abrams produced Westworld) and after that -- who knows?

What do you think? Are you looking forward to seeing some more original content from JJ? Was there a property you were hoping he would reboot? Leave your thoughts below.

I like that he is back for IX. I liked TLJ, but TFA is far superior in the sequel trilogy

He really hasn’t rebooted that many things. He rebooted Star Trek but everything else that’s been part of an established series has been sequels not reboots

I really enjoyed both Star Trek films but I guess it was because I wasn't too connected to the 80's or 90's shows. I did see more episodes from the late 60's and 70's though.

But I didn't like his take on TFA. Particularly how he handled Han Solo. Nevertheless, Rian the hack Johnson made a worse film in TLJ.
