BOX OFFICE: Disney And Lucasfilm's STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI Headed For $425 Million Opening Weekend

If early accounts are any indication, Disney and Lucasfilm have a massive hit on their hands with Rian Johnson's Star Wars: The Last Jedi. There hasn't been a single early-reaction that didn't indicate or imply that the latest installment surpasses Star Wars: The Force Awakens in every way.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Last Jedi is estimated to gross $200+ million in North Amerca on its way to a $425+ million global haul.  More impressively, that figure doesn't include box office figures from China, where the film won't open until January 5.  The only other film daring to open this weekend is the animated family film, Ferdinand, which stars WWE superstar John Cena.

Will the film go on to surpass the box office records of $247.9 million opening weekend and $936.7 million domestic total set by The Force Awakens?  Share your thoughts in the usual space below.   Do you already have your tickets for Thursday night?

I thought it was extremely predictable. Some great action sequences but overall not as epic as a movie as was promised. Still....entertaining and fun just not a triumph. It will make plenty of money though.

Damn that's crazy! I think a lot of people knew this would be the best of the trilogy with Rian in the chair, can't wait to see it!

Also, why such late reviews on RT? Avoid spoilers more than usual it seems?

Is that the Journal of the Whills in that picture?

@Forthas - Yes. Luke, will see the faults of the dogmatic Jedi in the only written word left. That is why Rey will become something else. Something like Je'daii. A warrior rather than a peace keeper. The original Star Wars story was told BY Keeper of the Whills...R2-D2. R2 told Luke where the journal was located. looking upon the Skywalker family...Lucas turned the Whills into The Force. Disney brought it back. Their is comantary about it during filming of EP III. “The entire story of Star Wars is actually being recounted to the keeper of the Journal of the Whills—remember that?—a hundred years after the events of Return of the Jedi by none other than R2-D2.”

Disney/Fox deal to be announced Thursday

http://variety.com/2017/film/news/disney-fox-deal-thursday-1202637347/

I hope you damn dorks are happy that you get to see Iron Man meet Cyclops at the cost of people losing their jobs, an entire film studio being shut down, & Disney owning 40% of the box office

[frick] you Fox. Leave it to Fox to [frick] up the film industry after [frick]ing up their own films since really Star Wars by giving Lucas a hard time on set & all the merchandising rights to him
