Clone Wars: "Ghosts of Mortis"

The Jedi remain stranded on Mortis, with Anakin Skywalker caught in an epic struggle between the light side and the dark side of the Force.

As the Jedi prepare for a decisive confrontation, Anakin must face some shocking visions of his own future in “Ghosts of Mortis” – the climactic chapter in an epic, three-part Clone Wars storyline, airing at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT Friday, February 11 on Cartoon Network.

With the fate of the galaxy on the line and Anakin himself tempted by absolute power over the Force, The Clone Wars continues to put a stake in the ground – firmly establishing the series as essential viewing for a full understanding of the still-unfolding Star Wars canon. The Mortis trilogy is utterly central to the maelstrom of what’s yet to come, bringing Anakin’s terrible destiny to the fore. In “Ghosts of Mortis,” we see his inevitable seduction to the dark side – in smoke-shrouded visions of the future, but also in the burning fires of the here and now. Plagued by a nightmarish glimpse of what he will become, Anakin will take up arms against his best friend amidst the fires of Mortis…

“The prophecy is finally playing out, front and center,” says Matt Lanter (90210, The Roommate), who voices Anakin in the series. “We are realizing that so many important events are being played out that will come to affect what happens in Revenge of the Sith. We see Anakin slowly becoming more independent, wanting more freedom and power. His relationships change. He has become even more of a leader, but may be questioning the Jedi leadership a little more. And it seems as if Anakin doesn’t trust [Obi-Wan] as much, and thinks he is actually holding him back.”

A transformative storyline in the trajectory of the series and the Saga as a whole, the Mortis trilogy explores wholly new ground – revealing the true nature of the Force as it’s never been seen before. At the very core of the story is Anakin – whose personal journey will ultimately define the galaxy.

“This is the Clones Wars at its best so far,” says Lanter. “These stories are such an important piece of not just the series, but Star Wars in general – and these are without a doubt the most trying and emotional episodes that we have seen Anakin deal with. He has to deal with visions of the past, saving his Padawan and risking the future all at the same time. It adds so much to the Saga and makes the events of the films that much more devastating.”

@LEEE777

I thought Lucas decided not to do a live-action series, that is was "too much money".

This series is amazing to the core.

But i´d rather have a series set after episode VI.

Because it´s a "filler" maybe it´s not receiving the respect and attention it deserves.

I can see that, but I believe more that a TV series will be made than another trilogy. Where else is there to go, with another three movies?

It could follow the books.
With the sons of Han Solo and Leia, and Luke´s Jedi Academy. There´s Admiral Thrawn and some baddies, Yuuzhan Vong, some Borg wannabes.
There´s plenty of stuff.

I started on season one about two weeks ago just because the 1 part of this "little saga" seemed so epic. I was under the false impression that they would reveal things that I really wanted to know but no. I hate with an intense fire this chosen one bullshit that Lucas has made. It has made Star Wars into something completely different.
Before this mobojumbo nonesense Darth Vader was a powerful sith who ended up doing the right thing, which was a way more powerful image to me than this messiah-ogga-bogga-dumb-dumb destiny which we already know. Why ruin the cool fiction with absolutely ridicoulus and really un-original used-up fiction which does make less sense than it already does?

I love Star Wars, only the originals of course(!) and I don't like what they have done with it. The "chosen one" subject has dimished everthing I loved about Star Wars.
I see the hypocrisy in started watching this series because of the 1-parter making me interested but it isn't really hypocrisy. I was intrigued about the nature of the force, not interesting about Anakins destiny but about the different sides, the different practioners.
I seriously hoped it would involve and reveal Yoda's species et al but obviously they/it didn't, so I feel kinda cheated out.
The "father", "daughter" and "son" wasn't that bad but it really didn't say anything that we already didn't know. Is there even a mother of sorts?
I like all these concepts of dark jedi, grey jedi and so on but physical embodiments and semi-deities? This has made Star Wars less of what it was, and way less ambigious.

The first part was cool but I was so annoyed by the second part. I really hope this third part really makes up for the second. But I already know that I won't find out what I want to know but I will watch it, hoping to see something unique.

Forgot there was even going to be a live action series its taking sooooo long!
Love this show though.Don't understand people who whinge about it being too childish.Star Wars has always been for kids. It's not Lucas's fault we grew up.I'm 34 and still loving it! :)

As for more movies...I'd rather see the ancient Sith wars or the very founding of the Jedi

@Amazo - I am so [frick]ing with you on that! I would love to see the KOTOR or pre-KOTOR times and such stuff! The whole factions of jedi and sith being made! There's so much in this rich and diverse universe it's breathtaking. I am seriously skeptical about knowing what Luke, Leia and Han does after ep 6(still ep 3 for me!) but the old days are really significant and intriguing!

Exar Kun and Ulic Qel Droma going all bad boy on the Old Republic would make me drool and giggle like a loon!

@Amazo [frick] YES! =D The Sithari and the conquering of them would be so great!

Its a shame about The Old Republic game. I absolutetly fell in love with KOTOR! KOTOR 2 was good but it lacked some of the passion of the 1st. I dont care for online games at all so me and my big brother are really pissed about them making it into this online experience, though the story seems truly interesting!

On another note, to learn more about the outer rims and watch Sith's fight would be truly amazing in a series! The mysteries of the Sith and the first clashing with the Jedi! I AM DROOLING ALREADY BY THE THOUGHT OF IT! =P
But alas its not to be. The overload of awesomeness that would follow that would be to great for any mind! =P

They've got to keep things simple for the hard of thinking I guess lol
Introducing another time line would melt most plastic fanboys brains!

these 3 episodes are simply epic. they are the best of this season. the animation has improved, although it is a bit strange that there are stronger beings in the force than anakin. why is he the chosen one and not the Father ?

@Denn1s Dave Filoni, creative director of the CLONE WARS, said that you need to look at these three episodes as if they are taking place inside the cave of Dagobah in TESB. It's metophoric and visionary. These beings don't truely exist, they are physical personifications of the Dark Side, the Light Side, and the Balance of the Force.

Star Wars, film wise, was meant to be a six part series. There is and never way any intention of filming an alleged episode 7,8, and 9. If you want those stories, they have already been told in the vast Star Wars Expanded Universe.

The live action show has been put on an indefinite hold. They've already written the first 100 episodes, but are currently unfilmable as television shows. The scripts call for effects and production values far more expensive then what the budgets could be. Lucas has said that rather then dumbing down what was written already, they will wait untill technology catches up and is cheaper to produce. Why do you think it was 25 years until he did the prequels?

A TV live action series would probably tank because would have to be talkative, and the common people would expect space battles all the time. The show would have to more like Star Trek. At its best it would look like the final seasons of "Deep Space Nine".

For example, the "Young Indiana Jones Chronicles" was a terrific TV show, but, since it didn´t feature endless movie like thrills one after another, the mob dismissed as "boring" and "not like the movies".
