Yesterday marked the fourth anniversary of Star Wars legend Carrie Fisher's death, and fans, friends and and co-stars have been paying tribute to the late actress and raising a glass to her memory.

Among those taking to social media to commemorate the iconic Princess Leia star were Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Ming-Na Wen (The Mandalorian's Fennec Shand), and Fisher's daughter Billie Lourd.

Fisher passed away before The Last Jedi was released, and Rian Johnson's film marked her final time in the role of Princess/General Leia. J.J. Abrams did utilize unused footage of the actress for a posthumous appearance The Rise of Skywalker, however, and despite that movie's mixed reaction, most fans would agree that her scenes served as a fitting send-off to the beloved character and the actress that played her.

The continued remembrance of and respect paid to Fisher is a testament to the lasting impact she's had on fans and those closest to her.

Princess Leia was obviously iconic, but when I was little I more readily thought of her from The Blues Brothers.

Does not seem like 4 years ago. I remember hearing that she was taken to hospital and was in a bad way, but was sure she'd pull through. Such an incredible woman.

Taken from us far too soon... Frankly, her death is one of the main reasons Episode IX went off the rails; I say this as someone who actually LIKES TROS.

RIP, I can't believe it's already been 4 years.

Also, today is Stan Lee's birthday.

The only positive thing I have to say about TROS is how they handled Carrie Fisher's death. Such a clever and respectful idea, and it worked beautifully. They didn't write her off. They didn't recast her or use a CGI model. What they did was true movie magic.

R.I.P.

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - They did CGI her at the end though right?? I don't see that final shot as disrespectful though, she'd have obviously filmed it if she were alive so I don't see the issue.

@Nightwing1015 - The force ghost scene? Possibly. I couldn't tell tbh since it was so brief.
