Here we have some very nice behind-the-scenes snaps from the set of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. They popped up over at Wired.com, who also have a very interesting interview with J.J. Abrams. The director discusses a wide variety of things relating to his film, including keeping spoilers out of promotional material; collaborating with Rian Johnson on Episode VIII (the script is finished, by the way); and putting the new cast together.

In the excerpt below, Abrams talks about those new actors (and droids) coming on board and interacting with the likes of Harrison Ford's Han Solo, and being elated at seeing everything work so well.

"We knew we weren’t just casting one movie—we were casting at least three. That, to me, was the biggest challenge. When we met Daisy Ridley, when we found John Boyega, and then Oscar Isaac and Adam Driver came aboard, we got really excited. And yes, Daisy and John could work together, but what happens when Harrison’s in the mix? What will that feel like? If it doesn’t spark, it’s a [frick]ing disaster. Yes, BB-8 is a great character, amazingly puppeteered, but what will happen when he’s suddenly in a scene with C-3P0 or R2-D2? Will it feel bizarre? Will it feel wrong? Somehow it didn’t. When Anthony Daniels told me, “Oh my God, I love BB-8!” I said, “We’re going to be OK.” Because if he’s OK, it’s working."

Starring original cast members Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, Kenny Baker and franchise newcomers, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Gwendoline Christie, Lupita Nyong’o and Max von Sydow, Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits theaters on December 18th, 2015.

Let's all enjoy SW, but always with critical thinking. Let's be aware about the propaganda they'll push. I'll enjoy the hell of it, but with my eyes opened! I know JJ's tricks. lol

It's already sold out of IMAX 3D for the first 4 days in my city. I've never seen a film sell or that fast. Managed to get 2 tickets for the 18th though.

Here in LA the biggest IMAX screen is at Universal City Walk, and it sold out for the 17th, 18th, and 19th already and they are running the movie for 3 days without closing meaning there are 2am and 4am and 6am showings and those have sold out. I have never seen that. I have tix for the 17th at 7pm at the IMAX in Burbank CA, then on the 18th in South Bay, and then on the 19th I get go to the IMAX at Universal.

I have a feeling this wont be enough. I think I will go on the 26th just to escape the family.

"he also said "more power" to the haters of the prequels. he made the movies he wanted to make that had anakin/vader at it's heart and that there were people who liked and didn't like the original trilogy when it came out"

My girlfriends son is 13 and he has not seen any of the Star Wars movies. I am watching him for her on Wednesday so he can help with "yard work". By "yard work" I mean pizza and watching the original trilogy.

@JediPhil

I agree on your last point,which is also the best and most important aspect of the PT. How much it adds to the OT. I went straight from my first viewing of EpIII in the theater to my house and watched EpIV. Blew me away almost like I had never seen it before. Its like you said, the PT is the history of the Star Wars universe and only the worst PT hater would deny that contribution to the OT was positive.
