Star Wars: The Last Jedi is going to be here before we know it and that means the BBFC (British Board of Film Classification) has given the movie a rating. As you might expect, it's going to be a hard-R! Not. No, the movie will actually be a 12A - the UK equivalent of a PG-13 - because of "moderate violence."

That's not a surprise but the fact that Star Wars: The Last Jedi will be the longest Star Wars movie to date might be. We heard months ago that it will be upwards of two hours but we now know it will actually run for a total of 152 minutes. That's a whopping length but Rian Johnson clearly has a lot of
story to tell with this follow-up to The Force Awakens which will put the focus on Luke Skywalker.

Along with that news comes two new Empire Magazine covers featuring Adam Driver's Kylo Ren and Daisy Ridley's Rey. They're on opposite sides of the Force for now but will that remain the case?

Time will tell but stay tuned as we'll bring you more from this issue of Empire Magazine as we have it.

I really like this new generation of Star Wars characters. Even though I've spent the last 20 years reading about Han, Luke, and Leia, nothing will make me happier than if people spend the next 20 doing the same about Rey, Finn, Poe, and Kylo... or Ben... or whatever his name is.

If they're handled right, they could easily surpass the original trilogy in terms of cultural significance, and that's saying something.

@Spock0Clock - Eh sadly i dont think they have the same impact. Judging off force awakens alone.

Maybe someday.

@KingCipher - I'm saying give them time. The originals were effective, but only really had 2 good movies. (Empire and about 2/3rds of Star Wars and 1/3rd of Jedi). But if they stick with these characters for 5 or 8 movies, it's going to be what a whole generation of kids understand as Star Wars.

(Though, I think the MCU will probably occupy a lot of that shared cultural touchstone of the era, anyway.)

@Spock0Clock - “Butt Spick, Ray is a Merry Zue. She not good character. Also Kylo iz whiny & all emo because he shows emotion. And Finn & Poe is Dizney forcing POC in these movies. They not good characters.”

@Spock0Clock - Finally someone who gets it!

I wasn’t around for the original Star Wars, but that was obviously a huge hit in terms of cultural impact as it was something new, original and exciting at the time. I’m sure it was instantly popular and had tons of fans right away. But they became immortal over time.

We have only one film featuring these characters so far, the second nearly here, and so many assume they won’t be all that memorable. Despite what a small group might say, they already have their fan bases and people who aren’t even really into to Star Wars know some of these names.

@Spock0Clock - All things considered, and especially considering the history of the Star Wars franchise there is absolutely no way that Ray, Kylo Ren, Finn, Poe, BB-8, Snoke and Captain Pharma come close to surpassing the cultural impact of Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Princess Leia, C3PO, R2D2, Ben Kenobi, Yoda, Boba Fett and Darth Vader.

Before the original Star Wars there really was nothing and when the movie was released it changed the cultural landscape to the point where characters like Darth Vader, Yoda, Boba Fett and R2D2 are still not only a huge part of the cultural lexicon, but have transcended generations.

The new characters will make an impact, but not nearly as seismic as the characters from the Original Trilogy.

That is BS! Empire did a STAR BORES issue like 3 months ago
Add that to doing at least one Star Bores issue every year when they weren't even making them

I love the look of these two, seriously, it's a combination of 70's look with some modern stuff, they are both weird in a great way!

152 minutes! Hopefully no one gets too drunk on our party bus on the way to the theater, or they're going to pass out.

The tiny scar on Kylo's face is laughable after the massive slice he recieved at the end of The Force Awakens.

No new character marches Kylo. Such a cool, ubique villain

I really hope Kylo Ren keeps his helmet on (and not smash it like in the trailer) The mask is cool and have a badass sound but Kylo without the helmet is not working for me.
