Stunning First Trailer For Alfonso Cuarón's GRAVITY Debuts

Dr. Ryan Stone (Sandra Bullock) is a brilliant medical engineer on her first shuttle mission, with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky (George Clooney) in command of his last flight before retiring. But on a seemingly routine spacewalk, disaster strikes. The shuttle is destroyed, leaving Stone and Kowalsky completely alone--tethered to nothing but each other and spiraling out into the blackness. The deafening silence tells them they have lost any link to Earth...and any chance for rescue. As fear turns to panic, every gulp of air eats away at what little oxygen is left. But the only way home may be to go further out into the terrifying expanse of space.

The film is set to hit theatres on October 4, 2013.

visually it looks great but the movie seems a little too simple...the entire movie is them floating into space?

Why would anyone cast Sandra Bullock as a brilliant medical engineer?

I dont get it. The shots of earth look great, but the spacesuits and station look awful in action.

Never understood the big deal over Clooney. Like Bullock, he's pretty much the same monotone character in every film I've seen him in. He doesn't even play characters that demand a unique/original performance.

Anyway, this trailer must look great on the big screen.

Okay.... I'm sorry but this doesn't really capture my interest... What is this supposed to be about? An astronaut that gets lost in space? O_o

Maybe future trailers will give me more insight. Right now this isn't on my watch list.

The film will be for us to feel the tension, terror and desperation the character will feel. The struggle to survive to see her family again vs the impulse to give up.

This movie will be great but I suspect not for anyone wanting an entire film made up of what the trailer shows

I am gonna say that last shot in the trailer with whoever that is in the space suit being flung spinning into space with Sandra Bullock's voice speaking over it is most definitely not her but some other astronaut. The reason why you would never catch her she would just continue that speed until she happened to hit something or came close enough to get caught in the gravitational pull of a some celestial sphere.

Visually the movie looks great just not sure how the hell they could survive this because two suits floating through space with anywhere from 6 to 8.5 hours of air where are they going to go. Space station is gone nothing else is up there and there is no way they could get another space ship prepped and launched anywhere near that amount of time. Movie looks like it is going for some kinda realism hence why it looks to be present day just seems they are dead with technology we have today.

@ NeoBaggins

I have a man crush on Clooney he is a really good actor. I am also embarrassed to say he would have made a really good Bruce Wayne if that script and story was not so corny and campy!

This is actually one of the most horrifying things I can imagine. A person in this position has essentially 3 options.

1. Hang on to a piece of debris that is clearly headed towards Earth and will cause you to burn to death in the atmosphere
2. Float around in space in the hope that someone eventually rescues you, all the while knowing you have a limited supplies of oxygen, food and water, and you're spinning like a top causing insane nausea, which probably means you won't sleep. All of this leads to the conclusion that you will die due to lack of oxygen/water/food/sleep deprivations.
3. Open your suit/helmet and die (hopefully) fairly quickly, whether it be from freezing in the sub -400 degree Farenheit conditions, the lack of pressure, the lack of oxygen, or a combination of the aforementioned.
