TENET Star John David Washington Expresses Desire To Reteam With Christopher Nolan For A Sequel

Tenet is a movie that definitely leaves the door open to some sort of continuation, and star John David Washington has now opened up about his desire to reteam with Christopher Nolan for a sequel...

Tenet is a movie that delivers a lot of big twists, including [Spoiler Alert] the reveal that John David Washington's The Protagonist is, in fact, the one pulling the strings and the founder of time-travel organisation, Tenet.

It's certainly not Christopher Nolan's biggest twist, but it is one that leaves the door open to future storytelling possibilities. While Nolan has only ever helmed sequels to his Batman movies, Tenet is a movie with real franchise potential, so it wouldn't be overly surprising for the filmmaker to return to that world one day.

During a recent interview with Esquire, Washington expressed an interest in returning as The Protagonist, but acknowledged that it's a decision which is ultimately out of his hands.

"In reality, I don’t know," the actor admitted. "Chris does what he wants. Maybe he has something that he’s developed for years that he wants to do next, maybe he’s been inspired by something else he sees and wants to do that, I don’t know. I hope we get to do it again, I hope we get to explore more, because I think we found something really unique."

Tenet has pretty much bombed at the box office thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, so it's hard to say how keen Warner Bros. would be to revisit the franchise. After all, Nolan's insistence that it be released in theaters and those endless release date delays created a lot of negative publicity.

Would you like to return to the world of Tenet?

Nice to know he can handle Nolan's no chair policy.

Be warned Fisher, if you try to work with Nolan, you will not survive the shoot.

Well, Nolan tends to work multiple times with the same actors, so i'd say that his chances are quite good.

@Doomsday8888 - doing another movie with him, yes. Doing a sequel, probably not. only sequels he did was dark knight and dark knight rises

@Doomsday8888 - except the only time a nolan movie ever got a sequel was with batman, and thats for obvious reasons. Nolan just doesnt value sequels as much as the rest of the industry. Its why i put zero credit to the "tenet is secretly an inception sequel" theory, because nolan cares about telling new stories rather than continuing old ones.

Even in batman he's made some pretty big steps to ensure they each work as individual movies. You can start with tdkr and fully understand whats going on.

>Both @Origame and @dracula replied to me

Ya know, i'll take this moment to say something that's been bothering me a lil bit but for quite some time.

I always tend to mix up you both, dunno probably because you don't have an avatar and i never can't seem to remember which one i like more.

Although i know how we can fix this:

Let the games begin!!!! :)

@WakandanQueen - Sadly you are right.

I still feel that most of this year's blockbusters should have moved to 2021.

Nolan has a fondness of working repeatedly with the same actors, so maybe another original Nolan film.

@kitheka - Nolan definitely lives by the "no new friends" mantra

I didn't really liked to concept that he ended up in some closed loop (didn't like that in Interstellar either), but I can see how this leaves the door open for a sequel (or would that make it a prequel?)

Loved the movie and a sequel would be great.

Really don't understand how people are finding this so complicated. After I first saw it maybe, but after thinking it over for an hour it was pretty simple.

To be fair, I don't think it bombed 'because" of the pandemic. I think it bombed because it was a confusing mess. It looked good, had solid performances, and was well written for what it was. But it wasn't coherent by any stretch. I think the pandemic hurt it for sure, but plenty of movies have done fine by splitting between limited theatrical and VOD releases. I think forcing a solely theatrical run certainly hurt it, but I think it wouldn't have been up to par with the rest of his releases regardless. It's made for hard core Nolan fans pretty exclusively, but even being a fan of his style and work specifically I thought it was a mess.

I'd love to see a sequel to this film. I kind of loved this movie. I understand why some people had problems with it, but I thought it was such an entertaining spectacle. Kind of gives you a sense of what a Nolan-helmed Bond movie would feel like.

Doesn't need a sequel. A sequel would cheapen it. It's a brilliant work all by itself.
