I the midnight showing of Salvation here in Boise on Wednesday, and all I have to say is this:

It was epic. A great, dark, gritty post apocalyptic war movie. A great story. Bale portrayed Connor very well and i liked that the whole story didn't portray Connor as some goody goody resistance member, he's pretty damn hardcore. CGI was great, the machines were menacing as hell, I've never felt more disturbed by an evil robotic regime. And some of the shots in the movie are very "Children of Men"-esque long continuous action wise. and there's hardly a dull moment in the movie.

I'll agree that the dialogue was a little iffy at some points, but not enough to take away from the movie itself.

In my opinion it's just as good as J.J. Abram's Star Trek.

i saw it at midnight wed. and must say it is the best movie to come out this summer. saw wolverine the night it came out and it was good... but the terminator series is totally on a new path. its amazing how they made a sequel but in essence it is an origin story because you see the creation of the new war and where the last movies come from. it is awesome.

dellamorte1872 Any movie can be PG13 and still good. It's sad that people think that way it's like for a movie to be good they have to say [frick] 3 times and show boobs. Other wise all the 15 year old boys won't like it.

spideysweb - 5/22/2009, 5:01 PM
I saw it yesterday. It was just ok. I thought Bale did a lousy job and was absolutely horrible. Worthington is definitely the star of this movie. I would say see as it is entertaining but by far the worst of the series.
MetalHead
MetalHead - 5/22/2009, 5:08 PM
Spideysweb has either (a) not seen "T3", or (b) decided not to consider it part of the series. I'd pray that the latter be true, otherwise his comments have zero credibility.

Spideyweb I you serious? Bale did a lousy job ? give me a break he was the strongest part of the movie.

The only bad part about this movie was that the ending seemed rushed. Other then that, this is one of the best done Terminators, and a great movie hands down.

Ah, no Dellamorte, the reason is that the majority of the deaths are MACHINES! You can't even bother arguing this point if you haven't seen it. THAT is ignorance. Trust me, it doesn't feel like a PG-13 movie. It doesn't feel like they held back on any violence and although you think without having seen it that it's a war movie, that's really not a good way to characterize it. And another news flash for you: if you had actually seen the second movie you'd know that there really aren't that many deaths, and of the deaths, very few are graphic. The worst ones are the holocaust scenes, John's foster parents and Lewis, the security guard at Pescadero.

Yohon,
Agreed but that makes sense considering the re-write.
stupify_me
stupify_me - 5/22/2009, 5:35 PM
As was pointed out Dellamorte most deaths were machines. Movies don't need excessive gore to be good. Contrary to what Eli Roth would have you think.
alten2345
alten2345 - 5/22/2009, 6:01 PM
@dellamorte

Saving Private Ryan didn't have blood and guts just for the sake of having it. It had it because that movie was meant to be as realistic as possible in relation to what actually happened during the war, specifically the Normandy Invasion. Hey maybe in a future war with machines people won't bleed or swear lol.

Regardless, this movie is easily a second to Star Trek as the best movie of the summer season so far, IMO. It's just a good, overall, popcorn movie. If you can't watch this movie and not enjoy the action and little nods to T-1 and T-2 there's something wrong. The inclusion of the Guns N Roses song as well as (SPOILER) Arnold were definitely cool "Oh sh*t" moments for me.

Alten,
I'm just as big a GN'R fan as I am a "Terminator" fan and I gotta strongly disagree with you there. If they wanted to put the song in then I was all for it. The way they did was one of the few parts that I considered to be way too cheesy.

This movie was very adult, what MetalHead said plus the rape scene, well it was cut into almost a rape scene which is what I think brought it down to a pg13. If they had had Goodblood shirt ripped off in the scene it would have brought it to a R.

Wait, what rape scene are you talking about?
MetalHead

Oh, nevermind. I misread that and thought you were referring to my comment regarding graphic violence in "T2."

Well when moongood cuts herself down and tell marcus to go with her then there walking and then boom shes by her self in another area, the rednecks jump her hold her down, then marcus comes in and kicks ass. the first cut was she tells marcus to come with her but he doesnt then she gets jumped shirt ripped and boobs out then Boom marcus came after all and saves her.

Yeah, I read that. I just thought you meant that in a version of "T2" that you had, Dougie raped Sarah at Pescadero in a deleted scene or something-- which made me pissed for a second because I've seen every "T2" deleted scene and alternate ending and I thought that meant there was something which I hadn't seen. Guess not. I can't even watch "T2" without the deleted scenes put back in.

To me this was just below T2 as far as my favorite in the series, almost a tie, but T2 still pulls out. Terminator is of course the best.

Obviously dellamorte doesn't know what he's talking about, but I sort of agree that the lower rating somewhat compromised the film. just cutting the boobie clip at the race track totally messed up the whole scene. McG should have come up with something to replace the clip with so that the scene still made sense. As it was we are to believe that a group of goons were turned on by Moon Bloodgood's application of anti biotics and thus she shot one of them in the crotch.

ETA..I thought the cut scene was just her with her shirt off to dress the wound on her shoulder, thus the line about "Nice show you put on there". I hadn't read that it was a rape scene, that only makes cutting it even worse as it would have better explained her attachment to Marcus, which otherwise seemed very irrational.

I really have to disagree. The fact is that the nudity wasn't necessary. If you read the prequel novel you know that the world in which they live has a bunch of gangs who wander the streets stealing from people who are weak and not to mention that in this world you can't exactly go to a bar to meet girls so just the sight of one-- let alone one as hot as Blair-- would be enough in this world to inspire those guys to try to rape her.

One main thing I would have done differently (don't worry, this will be done without a spoiler so if you've seen it, you'll get it) would have been to change the date in the opening scene from 2003 to 1995. The reason for this is because this group of writers clearly HATED "T3," like they should have, and that date was the only proof of that movie in this one. Granted, Kate Brewster/Connor is in this one but there's nothing to suggest that John wouldn't have met her anyway.

I got to agreewith Metalhead about the fact that she is probably the only woman they've seen in a while. I've been in situations where I went about a year without seeing a woman, and after thst much time Doris Roberts and Bea Arthur start looking pretty good.
HarrisonBergeron
HarrisonBergeron - 5/22/2009, 6:56 PM
I'm not saying the nudity was mandatory, just that a filler scene should have been filmed to replace it, the way the edit looked it seemed like the goons were mostly after her medicine and that her body was secondary at best. Again, the line about the "nice show" made zero sense in the theater cut.

Interesting that you bring up the year, something a lot of offroad and Jeep people likely noticed immediately is that the Jeep Marcus hot wired (the product placement one) was very obviously an '07 or newer. This means one of three things, Chrysler is a subsidiary of Cyberdyne and we just don't know it; Judgment day happened in '07 or later; or someone wanted to make an easy buck.

Rednecks, wankers, hillbillies, yanks, whatever you want to call them.

As for the rape scene, I didnt read it because I didnt want to spoil anything, but that scene was just weird how it just cut to the field and shes by herself.

Well the jeep being an 07 or whatever year it was shouldnt mater, because the tech in this world is much further along, then ours is, so that could have been like a 01 but its just looks like our 07... thank about it... it will blow your mind! lol.

Metalhead, you are right I was comparing it to the 1st 2 as I never finished watching the 3rd one. Stupify me, how can you say Bale was the star...You call talking in his low scruffy "Batman voice" good??? Worthington was the star of this movie, if it wouldn't have been for him, this movie would have sucked a** big time.
