THOR: THE DARK WORLD's Alan Taylor Looks Set To Helm TERMINATOR Reboot

Variety has revealed that Thor: The Dark World director Alan Taylor is in talks to helm the planned Terminator reboot from Skydance Productions, Paramount and Annapurna Pictures. The site adds that Ang Lee (Life of Pi), Rian Johnson (Looper) and Denis Villeneuve (Prisoners) were all in contention before it was ultimately decided that Taylor was the right man for the job. Details are scarce at this point, although it's believed that this will be the first instalment of a new standalone trilogy. Arnold Schwarzenegger has also expressed interest in returning. Whether this means Taylor will be too busy to direct any season five episodes of Game of Thrones or even a possibly third instalment of the Thor franchise remains to be seen. What do you guys think?

They made a good movie with Salvation, now the morons in charge (suits) gave up and we're getting another attempt to salvage this franchise for the 3rd time in the last decade. Do these people ever learn? More chances they will burn their audience by the movie.

Out of all those directors, only Taylor and Lee have had experience managing blockbuster budgets. And after Hulk (2003), is there any surprise they went with Taylor over Lee?

Ang Lee won big at the Academy Awards recently for Life of Pi so there is a surprise there. Besides who barely remembers the 2003 Hulk other than the fanboy community still raging about it.

Ang Lee's Terminator is the strangest thing I've heard since Ang Lee's Hulk.

Ang Lee is a great director. Hulk 2003 was a fluke of a bad movie.

Wow. All those guys are under consideration? At least they are taking this thing seriously and not treating it like they do VG movies.

I hope Cameron is involved as a producer or something.

Salvation SUCKED ASS. Worst one in the bunch.

Id rather have them finish the saga, then reboot, but I can see why they want a clean slate. They really put themselves in a corner that I dont even know if they could fix properly.

but on another note, how hard will this be to remake? Ity better have a GREAT screenplay. The twist of the original wont be enough. They will really have to dig deep to make a great time travel movie

Worst part...

-The Sarah Connor Chronicles left us hanging
-The movie series left us hanging

"lets screw over the audience AGAIN and make a third universe that we wont finish"

Damn. Rian Johnson would have been PERFECT for this, especially after Looper. He was actually my first choice. I wonder why they couldn't work something out w/ him......

You know what would be awesome about the reboot if done correctly?

Have the machines control John Connor (or whatever alternate "savior" a new series designs) as a puppet of sorts. They want John Connor to be the one, because in the original future, someone else managed to defeat Skynet. Make Sarah (and Kyle) think that John is the so-called savior in the past.

Sequel: new "savior". Hey guess what, you are the savior of humanity, and your name is not John Connor, and it is not whatever alternate a reboot might use (no connection to the first one). We discover that Skynet has been putting out red herrings for humanity to find and expand on the technology, advancing the machine's superiority.

Second sequel (if applicable): Skynet launches their attack while sending a Terminator to successfully eliminate the original leader. John Connor (or alternate) and the second "savior" unite to try and save military leaders with the help of a very untrustworthy Terminator.

HE BETTER BE BACK FOR THOR 3.

I think he will. They went in a different direction from thor 1 to hire him for thor 2 for a reason. He's perfect for thor.
