Last night Paramount released the official synopsis for J.J Abrams upcoming film 'Super 8' and now hot on the heels of that, they've given us the official full-length trailer for the movie which might raise more questions rather than answer some.

"In the summer of 1979, a group of friends in a small Ohio town witness a catastrophic train crash while making a super 8 movie and soon suspect that it was not an accident. Shortly after, unusual disappearances and inexplicable events begin to take place in town, and the local Deputy tries to uncover the truth – something more terrifying than any of them could have imagined."

'Super 8' hits theaters this summer June 10th

Is this going to be a big budget cloverfield?

I'm good they are keeping the monster a secret, adds to the excitement of what it could be. Seems very much like a Spielberg film, like a mixture of Jaws, ET, and Close Encounters.....sign me up

I'm interested. It seems to have a sort of E.T. meets Stand By Me feel to it.

Yeah. I'll watch it.

Looks great, has that old school ET/Spielberg feel to it, the music etc.

And anyone who thinks they should have shown the monster in the trailer needs help.

i don't think its too much to ask for shot of the monsters arm or leg.

it didn't hurt showing the monsters of clash of the titians, king kong, jurassic park or godzilla.

This looks like Close Encounters had a baby with E.T. and then that baby was raised by J. J. Abrams.

@marvel72, aside from Jurassic Park (everyone knows what the dinosaurs were going to look like), your list of movies is not compelling. And they DID NOT reveal Godzilla until the movie was out in theaters. Looks like he's channeling Spielberg with this one. E.T. meets Cloverfield.

I am pumped about this, part of the movie was filmed down from where I used to live in Newell,wv

Greatest concern: "something more terrifying than any of them could have imagined," with CHILDREN as the main characters?! Hmm, was E.T. promoted as "terrifying" when it was released or is it BS advertisement?!

Interesting. Looks like an old-school sci-fi movie we've been itching to watch for some time. Down to the music at the end.

Looks pretty cool.

I know I can't judge his whole performance by the trailer, but from what I just watched, I'm not sure about the actor playing the sheriff. something just seems so off and unenthusiastic. That or it could just be the moving camera every time he tries to say something.

For half a second I thought Abrams was going to go all Michael Bay on us lol

But by the end, I loved it. Can't wait to see this movie :D

JJ said it himself this movie was a homage to the early Spielberg movies of the '70's and '80's. So the Spielberg look, feel, and tone of this movie is completely intentional.

Looks pretty decent to me. I get so tired of trailers that give away most of the movie, so I am glad they don't show what they don't want us to see yet.

it was never ever agreed that there is a monster.
it could be a virus, a fog like force, a robot like creature...

but dont except a cloverfield creature
