Unveiled at the 2011 San Diego Comic Con, Daniel LuVisi's
Last Man Standing was met with a great deal of interest from both fans and studios alike. In August, it was revealed that Paramount had purchased the rights to the movie from Heavy Metal Publishing, while the graphic novel (which sold out in less than two hours at the event) would be expanded into an ongoing comic book series.
Variety now report that the project is moving ahead with the hiring of David Leslie Johnson, writer of
Orphan,
Red Riding Hood and
Wrath of the Titans. The site describe the story as being set 600 years in the future and following an invincible soldier created to help Earth win a war against Mars. After becoming a celebrity hero, he’s framed for a heinous crime by a terrorist organization and, after a nine-year prison sentence, escapes to even the score. Scott Aversano will produce with Daniel LuVisi, the artist and creator of the graphic novel. The project will be executive produced by Stephan Lokotsch, Russell Binder, and Peter Levin.
