Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings has exceeded expectations by taking in at least $90 million in the U.S. over the course of the Labor Day weekend, and star Simu Liu has now taken to social media to rub it in the faces of some notorious YouTube trolls who've been hating on the MCU movie from the very beginning.
The always outspoken actor posted a collage of video screenshots to his Instagram stories with an unmissable "LOL" right in the center.
Liu has every reason to celebrate Shang-Chi's success. The movie had already claimed the third highest opening day of the pandemic era with $29.6M (just behind F9‘s $29.9M), but has now officially secured the Master of Martial Arts' live-action debut the biggest Labor Day opening weekend of all-time. Overseas, the film has amassed $56.2 million for a global total of $146.2 million.
You'll probably recognize at least some of the channels above. If a superhero movie (or really any major studio blockbuster) features a woman or POC in a prominent role, you can bet these clowns are going to have something negative to say about it, and, in all likelihood, spout as much misinformation about the film as possible.
It obviously remains to be seen how Shang-Chi will perform over its full 45-day theatrical run, but the decision not to make this latest Phase 4 release available on Disney+ Premiere Access definitely seems to have paid off for Marvel Studios.
Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings stars Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, who must confront the past he thought he left behind when he is drawn into the web of the mysterious Ten Rings organization. The film also stars Tony Leung as Wenwu, Awkwafina as Shang-Chi’s friend Katy and Michelle Yeoh as Jiang Nan, as well as Fala Chen, Meng’er Zhang, Florian Munteanu and Ronny Chieng.
Shang-Chi is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and produced by Kevin Feige and Jonathan Schwartz, with Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso and Charles Newirth serving as executive producers.
