SHAZAM! FURY OF THE GODS And ANT-MAN AND THE WASP: QUANTUMANIA Dominate The 44th Razzie Nominations

The full list of nominations for the 2024 Razzies has been revealed and it's led by Shazam! Fury of the Gods and Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania! Find out which categories they've been included in here.

The Razzies, or Golden Raspberry Awards, are an annual mock award ceremony recognizing the worst in film. Founded in 1981, they playfully highlight cinematic failures, presenting trophies shaped like raspberries and 2024 marks the 44th time the show has taken place.

In another blow to a genre which continues its battle against claims of audience "fatigue," two of 2023's superhero movies have dominated this year's nominations.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods has landed a "Worst Picture" nomination, with Dame Helen Mirren singled out as "Worst Actress" and Lucy Liu among those put forward for "Worst Supporting Actress." The movie itself, meanwhile, is also up for "Worst Screenplay."

Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania didn't fare much better. Michael Douglas and Bill Murray have both landed "Worst Supporting Actor" nominations, while Peyton Reed is among those singled out for "Worst Director." The Marvel Studios threequel avoided the Worst Picture category but joins some of 2023's most disappointing offerings in the "Worst Prequel, Remake, Rip-Off Or Sequel" category.

Somehow, The Flash escaped receiving any nods and, despite struggling either critically or financially, both Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom and The Marvels have emerged unscathed as well.

Results were determined by the votes of Razzie Members (1,179 "movie buffs," film critics and journalists from 49 U.S. States and two dozen foreign countries). The 44th Annual Razzie "Winners"  will be unveiled on the now traditional Oscar Eve, Saturday, March 9.

@WhatIfRickJames - Flash was better than both of them 🤷‍♂️

@FireandBlood - Your opinion is your own, but Shazam 2 was better than Flash.

Whilst neither were amazing, Shazam was at least consistent. Flash was a mess through and through. Saying that, they were both Victim at the box office to Gunn's announcement of a reboot.

@UniqNo - Agree. Flash was a worse movie than Shazam 2. Flash was an abomination. Shazam 2 was just too safe and unremarkable. But it wasn’t terrible like The Flash was. I’ll take a stupid Skittles joke over the nightmare microwave babies any day.

The Razzies are stll around? I Thought they stopped this years ago.

@Nomis929 - Funny thing is, the Razzies weren't even the first "worst in film award" show. The idea actually began with the Stinkers Bad Movie Awards in 1978. The Razzies came along in 1980 and became the only anti-award show by 2006.

Whomever came up with this event or idea has got to be the biggest a$$hole ever. Why? What's the point of having something that sh1ts all over people's hard work? Good or not, movies take years to develop/make and hundreds of people behind the scenes are working on them.
It's not right and this idea of knocking down other people for a laugh is asinine.
Origame
Origame - 1/22/2024, 9:45 AM
@lazlodaytona - I liked it originally when they were mostly doing the "so bad it's good" kind of movies that otherwise wouldn't be on anyone's radar (because they're so low budget). But now it's just hating on the movies it's popular to hate on.

Oh, and they have a massive hate boner for Stanley Kubrick for some reason. The shining swept the razzies the year it came out.
Vigor
Vigor - 1/22/2024, 10:33 AM
@lazlodaytona - I never understood the Razzies either. But I also see a lot of comments from people on this very site who rejoice to the heavens when a movie fails. So.. yeah guess it's within human nature for some
Timerider
Timerider - 1/22/2024, 10:52 AM
@Origame - that’s because Stanley Kubrick the director changed a lot of stuff in the movie compared to the book that was written by Stephen King and he hated The Shining film.
Origame
Origame - 1/22/2024, 11:20 AM
@Timerider - while I get the view, we're talking about an award show for movies. You should be able to take your personal biases out of the equation and focus on the objective achievements.

Just because it's different from the source material doesn't change the actual quality of the movie we got, which is widely considered one of the greatest horror movies of all time. And Kubrick is widely recognized as one of the greatest directors of all time.

@DrReedRichards - I really like Blue Beatle. Sadly, it came after 3 DC bombs and everyone gave up on it before it even premiered.
Origame
Origame - 1/22/2024, 9:42 AM
Yeah, I feel like this is just further proof the razzies and all award shows are irrelevant. I didn't like either movie, but come on. Lucy Liu for worst actress? Bill Murray and Michael Douglas for worst actor? Shazam 2 for worst screenplay? And Peyton Reed for worst director? This really just comes across as a hit piece on the popular movies to hate. Especially since neither the flash nor the marvels got a nomination.

And what kind of logic is it that a movie with the worst director isn't also nominated for worst picture?

Itwasme - 1/22/2024, 10:23 AM
@Origame - finally something we agree on.

Why were The Marvels and The Flash snubbed by the Razzies?
Origame
Origame - 1/22/2024, 10:05 AM
@PartyKiller - can't say for the flash, but we all know why the marvels wasn't. People are too afraid to be labeled racist or sexist.
Toonstrack

@Origame - a ton of female led and bipoc led movies have gotten razzle lmfao. Halle Barry famously accepted hers for catwonan in person.

@Toonstrack - Catwoman was 20 years ago, when it was OK calling something out without the fear of backlash and being cancelled.
Toonstrack
Toonstrack - 1/22/2024, 12:48 PM
@marvel72 - Tyler perry, Eddie Muppets and Jason Derulo all got razzle noms in the last 3 years lmfao.

You have always been able to call out anyone for making a bad movie.

You can only get canceled 8f you're afraid of cancelled. So at least your honest about racists and sexists being too afraid to be up front about it.

Legitimate criticism won't get you canceled. Your special brand of racism nighr but if you were really brave you'd share it anyway.
Origame
Origame - 1/22/2024, 3:21 PM
@Toonstrack - ...so? Identity politics weren't being shoved down customers throats on a regular basis then.
Toonstrack
Toonstrack - 1/22/2024, 4:14 PM
@Origame - oh it wasn't? You you mean that Halle playing a race swap oc yo be catwoman wasn't woke in your eyes?

Interesting slip.
Origame
Origame - 1/22/2024, 4:21 PM
@Toonstrack - she wasn't race swapped. That character never existed before. And they didn't include her because of getting a black person to play her. The idea was that the movie was supposed to star Michelle Pfeiffer and be a spin off of batman returns. The problem is that it was stuck in production hell and Michelle ended up leaving production. So they created a new catwoman character in the form of the big star Halle Barry and keep it in the Tim Burton batman continuity so they could bring her back later for a sequel.
WarMonkey
WarMonkey - 1/23/2024, 6:35 AM
@Toonstrack - Back then the Left wasn't openly as racist as they are now. We didn't judge people in the US based solely on their skin color or sex. All the way back the 80s and 90s the most popular actors, musicians, talk show hosts, etc were Black and the number 1 shows or movies had all Black casts or leads. Catwoman came out in 2004 long after we already had a Black Harvey Dent in Batman, and others.

Halle Berry was cast because she was a marketable box office draw and very popular back then. Not because of her race. They didn't market it as "the 1st Black female led action film" cause it wasn't and because those racist marketing tactics didn't work back then before the Left went full bigoted with their thoughts and ideas. The movie was never "woke" it was simply a movie they thought they could sell with a popular movie star leading it.

Fun Fact: Catwoman came out same year Blade 3 did. Also same year IRobot with Will Smith which was one of the biggest movies all year. Also AvP where a Black woman defeated a Predator, aliens, and an Alien Queen. White Chicks came out and was one of, if not the most, popular comedy that year. Kill Bill 2 came out along with Resident Evil 2, both female action franchises. The world has changed cause of the bigoted Left's control of the narrative and spreading hate and division through identity politics. In the 80s The Cosby show, all Black cast, was the number 1 show in a country that was 90%ish White. There were dozens of tv shows, back when there was like 4 or 5 channels only, that were 100% all Black cast Network tv That's impossible to occur if the narrative was true that the US is and always was a racist country.
Toonstrack
Toonstrack - 1/23/2024, 7:19 PM
@WarMonkey - its absolutely possible for it to occur because black people having their own corner of thing has never been the problem for racists.

The problem is racists want them to be separate. So when you see black people in the same properties as white people and actively involved THEN it becomes a problem. This has always been the racism the right has employed. You can have your own fountain. Your own restaurant. Just say out of ours.

Thats whats changing now and thats a good thing. Segregation isn't needed and anyone left or right who advocates for that is a fool.

If catwoman released today you'd 100% be calling it woke because it replaces a white chatacter wjos established with a black oc and makes a white person the villain. You all said batwoman was woke for doing the exact same thing didnt you?

Don't try and pretend racism doesn't still exist and hasn't always. Its very present in all facets of society and representation is the best way to fight against it. One shouldn't have to suppress or hide their blackness to be accepted.

And don't even come to be about merit and not seeing color. When a black guy tried to be president the right said he wasn't from the country and denied his own citizenship for years soem still do. You've been brainwashed.
Toonstrack
Toonstrack - 1/23/2024, 7:20 PM
@Origame - ok, so then the same thing as Bateman then. So Bateman isn't woke then?

Also, you call the marvels woke when it literally has a black woman playing a black woman and a white woman playing a white woman.
Origame
Origame - 1/23/2024, 7:45 PM
@Toonstrack - yes, because race swapping is the only way to be woke 🙄

The concept didn't even exist back then.
Toonstrack
Toonstrack - 1/24/2024, 2:15 AM
@Origame - the concept still doesn't lmfao.

You yourself just changed the arbitrary definition on a whim so that somehow catwoman can not be woke but Bateman can for doing the exact same thing. But also marvels which does nothing the above two movies did is also woke.
