Sony's SPIDER-MAN Spinoff SILVER AND BLACK Production Reportedly Delayed

Sony's SPIDER-MAN Spinoff SILVER AND BLACK Production Reportedly Delayed

This probably shouldn't come as a surprise since the film has yet to set a cast, but a new report has seemingly learned that Sony's Spider-Man spinoff Silver and Black has been temporarily delayed.

That Hashtag Show is reporting that production on Sony's Silver and Black has been delayed indefinitely, which probably shouldn't come as a huge surprise considering the Spider-Man spinoff had yet to set a cast and also very recently enlisted a pair of new writers.

A new start date hasn't been set just yet, but the original plan was to begin rolling cameras at the beginning of March in Atlanta where the studio shot both Spider-Man: Homecoming and recently wrapped the upcoming Venom.

Lindsey Beer (Chaos Walking) and Geneva Robertson-Dworet (Tomb Raider) were recently hired to pen a new script for Silver and Black, so this delay was almost inevitable. Gina Prince-Bythewood, who remains onboard as director, penned the previous draft. Chris Yost (Thor: Ragnarok) and Lisa Joy (Westworld) have also contributed to the film's screenplay.

Also, THS notes that while the film remains a priority for the studio, there are rumors swirling that Sony may be considering putting their film and TV studio up for sale relatively soon, which could be forcing them to reprioritize their upcoming productions.

Silver and Black is still scheduled to hit theaters on February 8, 2019, so expect the studio to set a new production start date sooner rather than later.

@DevarikaWoulf - I did 😉

Black Cat is a cool character. Why shouldn’t I be excited? Because it’s not a part of the MCU? Because it’s being made by Sony? Warner Brothers made Justice League. Marvel Studios made Thor TDW. All studios make good and bad films.

It’ll probably be a film starring two gorgeous women kicking ass in a lot of leather. I can get behind that.

@connorblaze - Don't worry, I actually agree.

@connorblaze - as someone who likes Suckerpunch for those same reasons... I agree... I can get behind any or many sexy women in scantily clad garb.

If Sony is smart, and they aren't, they will ditch their plans for this movie and the rest of their stupid Spider-verse. Otherwise, they are going to piss away all of the good work and good will Feige and Marvel Studios have created for the Spider-Man franchise.

1. I’m beginning to believe more and more all those rumors that the new Sony CEO wants to sell the movie and TV assets sooner rather later.

2. This I guess is great news for Captain Marvel.

Delay aside, it seems like this friggin movie has a better chance at being made than Gambit. Sony, for better or worse, actually seem to be moving through with their most unnecessary projects, whereas Doom, Kitty pryde, ANOTHER bad attempt at rebooting FF, and maybe even Gambit have no chance of seeing the light of day.
