THE AMAZING
SPIDER-MAN
ISSUE 013
In what may be the most emotional issue of Spider-Verse yet we are shown the Morlun family reporting their failures to their Father, Solus. The Inheritors once efficient system of cloning and devouring is no more, and Solus is out for revenge. He gives a rather powerful speech which reveals his intentions to make the Spider-Men Extinct, which seems like no easy feat. What is it with alternate worlds always having blimps...I get the feeling that maybe, just maybe we should still have them. In Doctor Who, Blimps, in Fringe, Blimps, and now in Spider-Verse on Earth-001 more Blimps. Anyway, it makes me happy seeing that the Morlun family has started to crumble, even if it is little by little.
First Page & Second Page
On Earth-3145, the Nuclear Wasteland, Peter and the other Spider-Totems have found Uncle Ben...but it seems that this version of Uncle Ben had in fact become Spider-Man, but he gave it up due to the deaths of that worlds Aunt May and Peter Parker. It is also revealed that Otto Octavius was responsible for the destruction of the planet. Both of these discoveries are mighty blows to both Peter and SpOck, for Peter he can't believe that this Uncle Ben has ignored his responsibilities, and to SpOck it is that Otto Octavius caused the destruction of the world.
Third Page & Fourth Page
Peter being the fantastic man that he is, manages to recover quickly and keep his fellow totems spirits high, all but one. Cindy, who is quite shaken up as she has had to return to a bunker similar to that where she spent most of her life. As well as the fact she felt guilty for swapping teleportation devices with Spider-Woman. So herself and Spider-Gwen set out to bring Spider-Woman back
Fifth Page & Sixth Page
Back in the bunker Billy Braddock, Spider-UK, is giving Spider-Man India a little pick me up chat. It has only just occurred to me that the other versions of Peter are not aware that they may just be merely ripples of him...but Spider-UK's talk is cut short by a frustrated Otto Octavius trying to decipher the great prophecy...and he is also made aware that the Peter Parker he has been gloating too is in fact a future version of himself, and he realises that he loses everything.
Seventh Page & Eighth Page
In a complete random turn of events it turns out that Anya Corazon, Spider-Woman's Spider in training can read the prophecies. Long story short some parts of the prophecy have already fallen into place on their own...things are taking a slight turn for the worst. But i have faith that the Master Weaver has thought this through fully.
Ninth Page & Tenth Page
Meanwhile on Earth-802, where Lord Jennix's Cloning Facility USED to be, the only two remaining Spider-Totem clones are mourning their fallen ally. His death was incredibly heroic and has certainly given the Spiders the upper hand. I would highly recommend that you pick up the Scarlett Spiders series. So far it has been absolutely brilliant and I will definitely be following it issue by issue.
Eleventh Page
The Morlun family has caught on to the smell of both Silk and Kaine's blood and set out for the hunt. But Kaine is fired up and ready to go. He mutates into some form of Spider-Monster in a fit of rage. The prophecy is becoming true, and Peter is powerless to stop it. So he does the only thing he can do. Launch a full scale attack on LoomWorld.
Twelfth Page & Thirteenth Page
The Morlun family divide to hunt down both Silk and Kaine, Solus and Morlun take on Kaine, and in what may have been the shortest, most bad ass battle in the whole of Spider-Verse...Solus is beaten. I did NOT see this coming. I knew that Kaine could hurt the Inheritors, but kill in one fowl swoop? The thought had never crossed my mind, Kaine achieved what Cosmic-Spider could not. Morlun kills Kaine with one of his own legs, and leaves the two remaining Brothers in a sate of confusion.
Fourteenth Page, Fifteenth Page & Sixteenth Page
Silk, Spider-Gwen and Spider-Woman are re-united at last, but they have little time to celebrate for they are interrupted by a swarm of Goblin slaves. It really has intrigued me how the Inheritors have managed to capture and control each of the different versions of villains. I wonder what their incentive is besides fear...
Seventeenth Page
Back in the Bunker Peter is trying to motivate Ben to join them in the battle against the Inheritors, but Ben is being stubborn, and then something very surprising happens. SpOck takes charge of the situation and gives a very powerful and meaningful speech that results in Ben agreeing to fight just one last time. I didn't think Otto had it in him, especially since finding out that ultimately he loses his "Superior" battle.
Eighteenth Page & Nineteenth Page
Ben suits up and the Spider-Army set out to Loomworld for one final battle. The battle that decides who wins, the Spiders or the Inheritors. It seems that as well as the writers not exactly knowing what to call a group of multiple Spider-Men, neither do the characters. Though I am surprised that Spider-Ham is still alive, I really didn't think he's make it. I am really looking forward to issue fourteen.
Twentieth Page
My Overall View
What a fantastic issue! I rate this definitely a 10/10, sure it wasn't the most exciting, but in terms of content and progression of the story a LOT happened. I have been absolutely loving this series, it's just such a shame that it has to end soon. This issue has left me with so many questions as well as high expectations for the final battle for survival. I really do hope that this somehow saves our Spider-Man from the up and coming Marvel NEW 52...I just don't want it to happen. Spider-Man has literally only just come back.
