"Just go from a place of being a fan and caring as deeply as you do."

Andrew Garfield has some big shoes and a tight unitard to fill when he steps into a role that Tobey Maguire did so well at. He'll have to overcome the comparisons, but after watching the trailer I think the bright young actor will exceed expectations and become the best live-action Spider-Man.

When MTV News' Josh Horowitz asked Andrew describe the difference between Marc Webb's version as compared to Sam Raimi's version he responded:

"I can't answer that, really. I don't know. I know that I saw the Sam Raimi/ Tobey Maguire version before it was legally out. I was so excited to see it, I got a pirate copy," Garfield told MTV News before a screening event Monday. "I was blown away. [Tobey has] been Spider-Man in my imagination since then, in my mind's eye."

The star of The Social Nework went on to talk about the best way that he approached playing the iconic role of Spidey. He tells MTV, "I approached the character like any fan would: with real reverence and terror and attempt to do it justice."

"I do feel like he's in me, like all true fans do," he said. "That's what being a fan is of a character like this: feeling like there's no separation between you and them and that you have ownership over them. Ultimately, you have no ownership over it, because he belongs to everybody."

The Amazing Spider-Man stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Denis Leary, Rhys Ifans, Martin Sheen, and Sally Field, the films swings into theaters July 3, 2012 in 3D!

he is going to be such a better peter parker than tobie was. Raimi's movies where good super hero movies but very poor spider-man movies. I did not recognize the spider-man that was put on the screen. So far from just the little preview that was on here, it already looks like andrew does a better job and webb did a much better job of putting spidey on the screen than raimi ever did.

Garfield will deliver as Spiderman. Maybe Tobey could learn something from him. He was okay but he cried way too damn much. For a super-hero... that's just sad.

Too bad Tobey didn't have this kind of passion. By the second and third movie people could tell that he was just doin it for the money. He could care less. That's what I got from his poor performance towards the end of the trilogy. And I agree with Garfield in The Amazing Spiderman being a new chapter in the Spiderman legacy, because in honestly it really can't be a replacement. It's just adding onto an existing story, giving it more depth. Garfield is awesome. I would be honored to meet him someday.

great actor, real fan, real passion for the film.its all we can ask for from him.pretty sure his performance will put tobeys to shame, although that wasnt really his fault, more like raimi's for not having a clue about spidey's jokester attitude.

as far as looks goes, he DEFINITEVLY looks more like Peter from the comics than Tobey, althou I think spiderman 2 is the best CBM of all time !
Peter NEVER had blue eyes and was more on the skinny side ...
as far a story goes, I always wanted Gwen since the get go, with Raimi's movies i think they started from the middle of the story...
I'm really REALLY looking forward for this movie !

I still don't see Tobey as Spiderman; after actually seeing him as Spideman! He did a fine job, but he didn't define it like Christopher Reeve did for Superman, or Bill Bixby did for Banner/Hulk. He was just ok. We'll just see how this Garfied whipper-snapper does!

The first 2 spiderman films imo are still in the top 6 for this genre. I hopethis one will surpass them or at least equal spiderman 2. I have high hopes. Garfield was good in social network.
