BOX OFFICE: THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN Looks Set To Open In The US With $120 Million

The Hollywood Reporter reveals that box office analysts are confident that the superhero reboot will gross upwards of $120 million during its six day debut in North America. Sony are being slightly more conservative, but only just. They are predicting somewhere between $110 million and $120 million, an impressive start for this mostly fresh spin on the familiar tale. The film has kicked off its international run with an impressive $50.3 million, so it's hard to imagine The Amazing Spider-Man being anything other than a hit at this point, especially as it has a good two weeks to dominate the box office until The Dark Knight Rises opens. Pre-release tracking shows that there is strong interest from males of all ages, while younger females are equally as keen to check out Marc Webb's take on Marvel's popular character. Click HERE to read my review of the film and HERE to watch my video interview with the director.

The Amazing Spider-Man is the story of Peter Parker (Garfield), an outcast high schooler who was abandoned by his parents as a boy, leaving him to be raised by his Uncle Ben (Sheen) and Aunt May (Field). Like most teenagers, Peter is trying to figure out who he is and how he got to be the person he is today. Peter is also finding his way with his first high school crush, Gwen Stacy (Stone), and together, they struggle with love, commitment, and secrets. As Peter discovers a mysterious briefcase that belonged to his father, he begins a quest to understand his parents' disappearance - leading him directly to Oscorp and the lab of Dr Curt Connors (Ifans), his father's former partner. As Spider-Man is set on a collision course with Connors' alter-ego, The Lizard, Peter will make life-altering choices to use his powers and shape his destiny to become a hero.

Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man
Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy
Rhys Ifans as Curt Connors/The Lizard
Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben
Sally Fields as Aunt May
Denis Leary as George Stacy

RELEASE DATE: July 3rd, 2012.

Those would be pretty solid numbers for a non-sequel.
I think it will do a little better than that, actually. $135-$140 is my prediction.

Good to see there's interest. They've had an uphill pre-release battle fighting the legacy of Spider-man 3 and the image that this is an unnecessary "remake."

I can be completely off the mark, but I'm still saying $200m from the first 6 days alone. And if doesn't get there with the six days, it will by monday.

The movie is going to do well for a reboot. Will end up 3rd in ticket sales after Avengers and Dark Knight for sure, no doubt about that.

Have my ticket for this Thursday at 11pm. Reserved seating, reclining seats, kick ass screen and sound system. AVX FTW.

150 million, easy. Story might be stale, but the character is one of the most popular superheroes.

That is amusing when anyone says 120 million is impressive!!

What? How is it impressive?
Original SpiderMan in 2002, opened at over 100 million (I think 118) & that's 3 day weekend collection!! (today that'll be adjusted to approx. 140-150... roundabout)
Now 10 years later same "new" beginning of series in 3D & IMAX 3D... & in 6 days that films takes 120ish & then u say it's impressive!
That's just like lying to yourself.!!

No!! It's NOT impressive!

It should do 160+ & even then it would be LESS than 2002 film; but is acceptable!

But 120 Million in 6 days (with 4th of July weekend) & then it's 3D & IMAX & with Superhero genre in full power: NO! Just No! 120 is BAD!!

As its just estimates it could go higher... so we'll see!
But please any less than 150-160 isn't good at all!!

@therealgoomba you're pretty dumb for under estimating the character spider-man. It's spiderman he's the most Reconized super hero ever.

The movie will do fine. It may not do as well as the Avengers mainly due to the fact that Avengers was built up for four years like a superhero dream team and that we've already seen 3 Spider-Man films.

The Dark Knight Rises will probably beat is as well mainly due to Rises being the conclusion of a solid trilogy while Spider-Man 3 sucked.

Spider-Man is still a more popular hero than any of the Avengers individually and honestly, I do believe he is SLIGHTLY more popular than Batman. I guarantee you that if this was the first Spider-Man movie ever to hit theaters, it would give both Avengers and Dark Knight Rises competition for most tickets sold.

You know the only reason this movies sits at a 77% is because it's a reboot if you wanna make it simple. Not really a bad movie it's just the same story( say the critcs that give it a bad review).kind of unfair but it's a miracle this film was able to hold its self up with the top critcs.
