Has Sam Raimi Seen THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN Yet?

The Huffington Post's Mike Ryan spoke with director Sam Raimi about his new film Oz: The Great and Powerful, and asked him if he had seen Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man. Check it out!

In 2010, Sony Pictures squashed plans for a fourth Sam Raimi-directed Spider-Man, which would of featured John Malkovich as The Vulture. Sony then set out upon a course to reboot the franchise with Marc Webb ("500 Days of Summer") at the helm, which lead to 2012's The Amazing Spider-Man, which starred Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man.

After the film was released many fans wanted to know if Sam Raimi had seen the film, and at that time he had not. So, many months later Huffington Post's Mike Ryan caught up with Raimi and decided to see if the director had finally had a chance to view it.

"Well, I'm a big Marc Webb fan and a giant fan of Emma Stone. And of Andrew Garfield. I saw him on Broadway in "Death of a Salesman" -- it's just brilliant. And I love the producers of that movie because they are dear friends, and the writer. But, I haven't had the guts to go see the movie yet. Because I don't want to go to my girlfriend's wedding. I just can't bring myself to do it. I don't have the guts. But, I hear it's great. My wife even loved the picture and said it was a wonderful, excellently produced, beautifully acted, brilliantly written Spider-Man picture. She'd tell me the truth and that's what she said." - Sam Raimi

Sam definitely didn't come off as bitter about the whole situation as he wished Webb and his Spidey franchise the best of luck.

"I think I handed the torch to Marc and I hear that he ran with it and succeeded and made a brilliant picture. I'm happy for him and all the team. And I only wish him the best and I salute them because it's a tough job, too."

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will be directed by Marc Webb from a script written by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, Jeff Pinkner and James Vanderbilt. The film will star Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, Sally Field as Aunt May, Shailene Woodley as Mary Jane Watson, Paul Giamatti as Rhino, and Jamie Foxx is Electro. The Amazing Spider-Man sequel will swing into theaters May 2, 2014.

Really Raimi? Really? Buck up and watch it. Webb will have to do the same one day when there's another reboot, just do it!

Your first two are still of a standard that has not been matched by most cbm's. Respect to you sir.

We know Spiderman 3 had more hands in the pot than it should have.

I would buy Sam raimi a beer, he's a great director and seems like a cool guy.

@LEVITIKUZ Why are your comments always so aggressive?

@LEVITIKUZ You mean Electro? I could be wrong but isn't Static shock in DC and not Marvel? Again I could be wrong but I'm just saying...

It's totally understandable that he hasn't seen it yet - he spent a lot of time developing his trilogy, so it's going to be hard to watch someone else take over, especially considering the way his own turn on the series ended (messing up the third movie and being booted off the fourth one).

I give Raimi's Spider-Man movies a bit of flack, but the truth is, Sam Raimi made me the Spider-Man fan I am today. It all started with the 90s animated series, but the Spider-Man movie elevated the character to huge heights for me.

Spider-Man 4 would have ended my enjoyment of Spider-Man though. 'Vulturess'... ughh...

I still think TASM is the best Spidey movie so far, but the first Spider-Man movie (and to an extent the second one) will always be special to me.

@PerlaB4 LEVITIKUZ is trying to make a joke.

@LEVI dude, the Static Shock joke wasn't funny when you said it like a week ago, and it isn't funny now. I thought you were excited about Jamie Foxx as Electro, anyway?

Webbs Spiderman is better than Raimi's 3.

One thing I've noticed and I am really getting bored of is everyone thinking that Sam's series and everything else he's directing for that matter is all of a sudden a competition with TASM series. Sam's movies have come and gone, the first 2 are great and I'm grateful to him for bringing my favourite fictional character to the big screen, but his spider-man movies are not the be all end all of spider-man, if you ask me spectacular spider-man takes that title.

Say what you want about the way some of his films turned out, but Sam Raimi is a class act and approached these questions with an humility most of you couldn't even dream of.

@batz11 Oh come one, that was the best part! Some people take their cbms way too seriously. Besides, it's not like the first 2, both fantastic movies, were high art without any campiness or sillyness

TASM was better than Raimi's movie, but his trilogy was still great, I like how professional he came off, unlike James Franco

ugh..!! that's the thing if you still need other people for employment, you can't just be straight thru and thru and just talk s**t bout dem (those damn interfering) producers.

they RUINED Raimi's third Spidey flick, where the lizard supposed to have made his on-screen debut.

It's nice to hear Sam say this so respectively. The situation is entirely understandable.

If only his "fanboys" and supporters would get off of their high horses and act as respectful as him...

Well, a man can dream. :)

its amazing how spectacularly superior all you haters think you are. ( see what i did there , now thats brilliance ). wahhh the movie wasn't exactly to the letter what my fanboy fantasy wanted wah . man you hate on dan slott for doing his thing with spidey but given the chance you'd probably muck it up worse. you hate on webb's lizard well at least it looked reptillian, not the frickin green goblin power ranger raimi gave us or killing "goodguy" doc ock or spideys powers magically disappearing cause his cry baby a$! didnt want them. i mean really boiled down raimi's trilogy was way further off the mark then webb's. oh the costume thats right thats what it takes to appease you. webb's trilogy will show peter growing and learning, being a dumb selfish teenager making mistakes, actually learning with great power comes great responsibility on camera and over time like aperson not off camera and in 30 seconds

Would have loved to have seen SPIDER-MAN 4, but if a reboot was what it took to get Spidey into the MCU, I'm fine with that. That being said, if TASM isn't part of the MCU, I'd be alright with it.

@pc04 nice rebuttle well thought out, cant argue with that! i liked the raimi flix in that they filled the " spidey on the big screen" itch, but in all honesty the moment he said he didnt get " how akid could create something 3m couldnt" i knew he didnt get it. raimi did okay but he never truly hit the mark it was a series of almosts.
