It's coming up to a year since Spider-Man: No Way Home was released, and after Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse found itself pushed from October to next June, the wait for more web-slinging action is proving frustratingly lengthy. However, a new trailer for the sequel will be released tomorrow, and a new still has now found its way online!
Putting the focus on Hailee Steinfeld's (Hawkeye) Spider-Gwen, it teases the sort of gorgeous visuals we can expect from this follow-up to the 2018 Oscar-winner, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
Total Film also caught up with one of the movie's directors, Kemp Powers, and he says Across the Spider-Verse will explore "the unique dilemma of being Gwen Stacy. She’s a vigilante seen as responsible for the death of her world’s Peter Parker," adding that, "The cop in charge of tracking her down is her father."
So far, so very much like the comic books!
That won't be the only challenge she faces, though, as these Spidey Variants will also battle Jason Schwartzman's Spot. "The Spot is an interesting villain because he seems like a joke, but when you really look at his powers, there’s incredible potential," Powers teases. "His ability to open portals across dimensions sets him up perfectly for the Spider-Verse."
The filmmaker would go on to drop quite the bombshell by revealing, "He’s the villain of the next two films...and let’s just say that the Spot and Miles are connected in surprising ways."
In Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Aater reuniting with Gwen Stacy, Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighborhood Spider-Manis catapulted across the Multiverse, where he encounters a team of Spider-People charged with protecting its very existence.
However, when the heroes clash on how to handle a new threat, Miles finds himself pitted against the other Spiders and must redefine what it means to be a hero so he can save the people he loves most.
In terms of confirmed cast members, the movie will star Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Oscar Isaac, Jake Johnson, Issa Rae, Jason Schwartzman, Daniel Kaluuya, Shea Whigham, Jorma Taccone, Luna Lauren Vélez, and Brian Tyree Henry.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse swings into theaters on June 2, 2023.
