Speaking with
MTV News while promoting
On The Road, Kirsten Dunst - best known for playing Mary Jane Watson in Sam Raimi's
Spider-Man trilogy - shares her thoughts on the news that Shailiene Woodley (
The Descendants) will play the character in Sony Pictures' sequel to
The Amazing Spider-Man, which will begin production in February. Ever since it was reported that Woodley was in talks for the role of Peter Parker's most popular love interest, many fans have been unsure of the casting choice. However, Dunst has nothing but good things to say about the young actress, going on to discuss their encounters in the past.
"I really like her too, a lot," she said.
"I've met her a few times and we've talked about health foods, we know some of the same people, she's really into finding springs and natural water and she'll go get her water and things like that. I've done that before, and we've talked about that. I think she's a sweetheart and such a good actress. I'm happy. If I had to pick someone, I'm happy she's following in my shoes."
It has previously been reported that Woodley's role as MJ in the first sequel to
The Amazing Spider-Man won't be very large, but will be much more significant in the third film of the series. Do you think she's a good choice to replace Kirsten Dunst?
The Amazing Spider-Man sequel also stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, Sally Field and Dane DeHaan. The film is set to hit theaters May 2nd, 2014.
