Talking to The Times Of India, Andrew Garfield has once again opened up about his role as the iconic Marvel superhero in Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man. Apologies for the odd spelling mistake and lack of hyphen in "Spider-Man", but the answers below are how they were presented at the source. For more from the actor, be sure to click on the link below to head on over to the site.

On Which Aspect Of Peter Parker's Personality He Most Identified With:

I have tried to explore Peter Parker as an orphan. Orphans, I feel, are the strongest human beings on the planet. The amount of things they have to deal with in their lives, is amazing. I have tried to capture how Peter copes with the feelings of being an underdog, his confusions and his self-doubt . This, I hope, has brought, a certain empathy and sensitivity to his character that explains how it helps him become the hero that he eventually turns out to be.

On How His Version Will Differ From Tobey Maguire's:

I love the work that Toby did. I've watched him in the earlier three movies as a fan and I feel that what he did was perfect. I would never even begin to compare myself with him. And I feel it's not the point either. This film is another chapter in the legacy of Spiderman and my responsibility was to remain true to the core of the character . I've tried to do it as best as I could.

On The Stunt Work Required For His Scenes As Spider-Man:

We had a great stunt team led by Andy Armstrong, who knew exactly what he wanted to achieve. And as far as doing the stunt goes, I had never done anything like it before. There were a whole new set of skills to develop and experience. I enjoyed every second of it - well not every second perhaps (laughs). But yes, most part of it, although it was hard work. I hope it shows on the screen.

On The "Challenges" Of His First Kiss With Emma Stone/Gwen Stacy:

Well, I got to practise for that - although on my own, I must add (laughs). I practised kissing on my hand, arms and in the mirror. I was just hoping I'll remember how to kiss when the moment comes and not fumble.

On His Most Memorable Moment On Set:

I'll always remember meeting Stan Lee, the creator of Spiderman. Like the earlier movies, he has a cameo in this one as well. It was incredibly exciting to meet such a legend, who's given so much hope to skinny boys around the world.

STARRING:

Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man
Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy
Rhys Ifans as Curt Connors/The Lizard
Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben
Sally Fields as Aunt May
Denis Leary as George Stacy

RELEASE DATE: July 3rd, 2012.

Ok now that is how Spider-Man should look as he really has looked in most comics agile, lengthy, spider like. People who says he doesnt look like a convincing teenager are blind he could pass in of the movie stills or footage as 17 easy,he got into great shape and does not look even close to 28 just 2 years from 30 he looks like a teen in this movie. And serious Andrew can do serious besides nerdy Tobey always looked unconvincing as a tough guy. We really are in for such a treat trust me the comic con footage was better than any shot of Raimis movies. In that footage Andrew was more like Spider-Man than any scene Tobey ever did.He plays Spider-Man as a smart ass why he is taking care of a common thug brilliant. Andrew is such a superior actor anyone who doesn't think so needs to watch any of the following films,"Boy A""Red Riding:Part 1""The Social Network" and the phenomenal"Never Let Me Go" a true born actor with such pure raw talent far more than Tobey has ever showed in any film to date. This movie will be special trust me the early comic con footage even showed that such a great energy and real practical stunts and even the early look they gave at The Lizard their was awesome! And by July or even next monday it will look perfect. People will see this movie it will make alot of money not just because of Spider-Man but because it will be a EPIC thrill ride with Andrew showing all comic book fans how to be truly "Amazing".

Kissed his hand for practice??? Get serious! The dude's almost 30 and probably has had more ladies than I've dreamed of. He sounds connected enough, but the SUPERcrap needs to be cut from these insignificant interviews...

And I think the people who say he looks like a teen are fanboys that are in denial and just want to say anything to stand by the casting...which is fine. I just don't agree. Garfield does not look close to 15, which is the age of Parker when he gets his powers, let alone 17.

merrillmind Is a plant!

And Raimi's Spiderman owned, and you need to show some respect. Without it you wouldn't have this movie or anything like it. In fact Marvel owes him practically everything also. Without Spiderman grossing what the 3 movies did you wouldn't have 2 to 3 Marvel movies a year, like you do now. I don't begrudge you your teenage girl crush, just understand and give the man the credit he's due.

Nuff said.

@LOGANXX35 funny how come July or even if you went to one of the previews on feb 6th how you would sing this movies praises. Andrew is one of the best actors alive! The range he has at his age is extrodinary, the fact your not behind this movie just shows you have no idea what brillant work he has already done. Any CBM would be lucky to have such an emense talent to carry a superhero franchise with. He will make you and everyone else who is so blind and still behind Raimi and soft spoken squeaking Tobey pathetic Spider-Man admit how utterly wrong you all are. But since you haven't seen the great comic con footage guess your just bitter a better actor and director stepped in to put Spider-Man back ontop as the #1 hero in CBM after the joke of Spider-Man 3 and puny Brock embarassed all cred Spidey had even built up iin cinema. Right off the bat with this movie were seeing a true CBM villian the lizard not like any other CBM has bothered to use any cool way out their baddies like Killer Croc but Webb knows that a CBM should use the lizard cause it's real comic book not just an average man with a glider or snowboard. Lets hear what you have to say after you enjoy the film(and you will) bub

There's no need to praise Tobey. He was a terrible Spider-Man. Horrible. He didn't handle the character well at all. His Spider-Man hardly spoke and Parker was just embarrassing. From what I've been told, Garfield nailed it.
merrillmind
merrillmind - 1/28/2012, 9:07 PM
Who here has read any decent amount on any run of Spider-Man comics from any era and thinks Tobey nailed it? Where was the wise cracking at thugs or baddies? The intimidation? Or as Spider-Man 3 when did parker ever have a double chin? Tobey just looks weak even in Spider-Man 1. So what he got in shape when ever you had to listen to him speak the suit couldn't even convince me he was Spidey. Tobey did nothing to come across as a hero with such definign character traits nothing! Would it have been to hard to try to act like a character who is so fleshed out instead of just putting on a costume and only being in shape for 1 movie. Andew can out act Tobey in anything he is just better has an X factor he's not some look alike or unknown he got the part because of an excellent amount of work so far in really impressive roles. The comic con footage was more true Spider-Man than Raimi ever was and it was just rough footage. Why do you think Sony is previewing it? because they know how great it is gonna be. All I see is people on here complain about CBM not showing us stuff cause they think the end product must suck Sony brought a rough Lizard to comic con didnt have to but knew that the movie even in rough was great. Amazing wont even begin to describe what people will same come next monday.

"Where was the wise cracking at thugs or baddies? "

...and how do we know we are going to get that from Garfield? We don't. We have been told this is going to focus on Parker's teen angst as opposed to villains, so that doesn't have me to fired up to see another origin movie. I want to see some of those baddies and villains and Parker kicking butt and making his wisecracks. I have a feeling we will get just a little bit of that in this film. Time will tell, but I remain tentative as of now.
merrillmind
merrillmind - 1/28/2012, 9:28 PM
No their is a need to compare Tobey was terrible nothing close to a decent Parker or Spidey. About time somebody fixed that and audiences given a sense of why so many people over decades have read and loved Spider-Man comics instead of shitty acting and no sense of who Spider-Man is and is supposed to be.
merrillmind
merrillmind - 1/28/2012, 9:31 PM
@Ranger14 suppose you weren't at comic con that' ok not everybody can be but at comic con a big part of the footage was Andrew as Spidey being a smart ass while handling a common thug. Those few moments eclipsed everything Tobey barely and basically failed at ever trying to do.
Ceejay
Ceejay - 1/28/2012, 10:13 PM
Some things need to stay in the comics, when Spiderman continuously makes jokes and wise-cracks while fighting villains it may be fun to read but to hear that crap on screen during a dramatic fight will just kill the drama for the average joe no matter how much the fanboy wants to check it off his list as another thing done right. There is a big difference to what works in live action to a silly comic!

"big part of the footage was Andrew as Spidey being a smart ass while handling a common thug"

I see you are making a speculation based off of that one scene and assuming that will carry through the rest of the film. I wasn't overly impressed with that scene, but to each their own.

Ceejay@ Completely a matter of opinion. I think natural humor and wisecracks can fit in just fine in a Spidey film if done right. The key is having the right writer and director to do it right.

Can't wait for this movie. @Ceejay: Spiderman is funny. He's supposed to be a wisecracking hero. It's the main reason why his enemies hate him so much because he doesn't shut up. Would you rather have a soap opera Spiderman who cries about everything or someone who makes you laugh? Do you want to walk out of the theatre feeling good or like you want to cut yourself due to depression? Seriously.
