SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME Tops BLACK PANTHER To Become The 4th Highest-Grossing Movie Of All Time In The U.S.

As Spider-Man: No Way Home continues to dominate the box office, the Sony Pictures threequel is set to eclipse Marvel's Black Panther to become the 4th highest-grossing movie of all time in the U.S.

Although Spider-Man: No Way Home finally found some competition in Paramount Pictures' Scream revival, there doesn't seem to be any stopping Sony Pictures' beloved superhero threequel as it continues to dominate the box office.

Spidey's latest big-screen adventure took in $20.8 million over the course of its fifth Fri-Sun weekend, bringing its domestic 31-day total to $698.7 million. Though Sunday's final figures won't be released until tomorrow, No Way Home will pass $700 million at some point tonight, eclipsing Marvel Studios' Black Panther to become the 4th highest-grossing movie of all time in North America.

The Jon Watts-directed film now sits at $1.625 billion worldwide. This would be an impressive feat under any circumstances, but during a pandemic, it's pretty damn spectacular.

Scream, meanwhile, made $10.1 million on Saturday on its way to a $36 million 4-day opening (you can check out our review here). “This opening has reinvigorated the franchise for fans, while simultaneously introducing it to a whole new generation of new Scream fans,” Paramount’s Domestic Theatrical Distribution Boss Chris Aronson said in a statement.

Did you guys make a trip to the theater this weekend? If so, what did you see? Drop us a comment down below.

698 domestic (will pass BP tonight)
926 foreign

Foreign was ahead by 200, now more than 225. As the domestic legs come to a close (uhhh, moving on), that gap widens. So it’ll finish probably around 750, 765, but foreign ain’t slowing down as much. I expect at least 1.1 billion. So I see at least 1.85 billion worldwide by the end. Without China, which may release it eventually, and without closed territories, which will open theaters sooner or later. Yeah. 2 billion by some point.

Good time to be a Spidey fan. Can't wait for Spider-Verse 2.

I hate horror movies. Can't stand slasher movies. SCREAM is the exception to that rule. I've seen all four of them. Love the franchise as a whole, could have done without Scream 3. Anywhoo...
Scream 5 is the one I'm gonna miss. At least in theaters. I'll catch it on Paramount+. I recently caught COVID-19 (I'll be fine, thanks) and it's put the fear of God in me. So I won't be going to the theater until at LEAST this spring when DSATMOM comes out. For my own health and safety (and let's face it, fear) I just won't put myself out there like that anymore.
I'm glad SCREAM is getting good reviews and people are going to see it. Congratulations to everyone involved.

@BecauseICare - feel better man. But to be fair, you more than likely won’t catch Covid for the next 90 days, 30 at the very least

During the pandemic with no China? That’s impressive. I hope they don’t feel the pressure to go bigger after this but I’m glad they went where they went. I really enjoyed the movie

@MyCoolYoung - I think that they will dial it back after NWH. They're listening to the fans. They know what we want. Plus look at it this way: now Spidey is stripped down to his bare bones. He has no more Stark tech, no family or friends, no support system (superhero or otherwise), no money, no identity, nothing. All he can be at this point is a friendly neighborhood Spider-Man and I think that the next movie will deal with that heavily and we'll see a lot more NYC street level stuff. Not to get all philosophical, but I kind of see the first trilogy as an ocean wave or an orchestral piece where they built to this crescendo (NWH) and now we will see the decrescendo or the ebb in the wave in the next movie (which will undoubtedly build toward the next crescendo, whatever that might be, Venom, who knows).
