Shailene Woodley Expresses Her Excitement For THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN Sequel

Woodley, who will play Mary Jane Watson in next year's sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man, discusses her love for the character, praises Andrew Garfield and Marc Webb, and comments on the potential love triangle with her, Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy.

Speaking with MTV News at the Sundance Film Festival, actress Shailene Woodley comments on her role as Mary Jane Watson in next year's anticipated follow-up to The Amazing Spider-Man. While she obviously couldn't reveal many details for her take on Peter Parker's most prominent love interest, she shares her excitement for working with Andrew Garfield (Spider-Man/Peter Parker), Emma Stone (Gwen Stacy) and director Marc Webb, and also comments on her being a fan of the legendary Marvel character. "Spider-Man has always been my favorite super hero dude, since I was a little girl. I think there's something really special about flying. When I watched the previous Spider-Man [with] Andrew Garfield, he made me feel invincible," she said. "I think Marc Webb is amazing. I'm so stoked to work with Andrew and Emma [Stone], they're the best of the best." Of course, we can expect to see some sort of love triangle between Peter, Gwen and MJ, and Woodley had this to say when asked about the possibility. "Honestly, I don't know too many details about the film yet. But yeah, we'll see." Filming is expected to begin next month, so expect more news for the film very soon.



The currently untitled sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, Dane DeHaan, Sally Field and Shailene Woodley. The film is set to swing into theaters May 2nd, 2014.

Of course they are going to do the love triangle because the awkward teen romance wasn't boring enough in the first film. Honestly, nothing about this film has given me any hope so far.

Hated the casting choice, hate the direction they're taking and I hate that Electro's going to kill Gwen, not Green Gobiln. What the [frick] are you doing, Sony? I don't want a [frick]ing love triangle. I don't want MJ yet. I want Green Goblin done justice!
I want this to be good, but I don't support any decision they've made about it.

I really want to have faith in this but all signs are pointing to this not going well. I loved Garfield as Peter, Stone as Gwen, and like this girl as MJ (my choice would have been a little more... curvy but hey) but Jaimie Fox as Electro? DAFUQQQ! And if they go for a love triangle or any kin of hom wrecker crap with MJ i will be pissed. I think this should hav been about GG, introduced MJ in a small role, killed of Gwen leaving Peter in dark place and then explore his relationship with MJ (and maybe the symbiote?) In a 3rd

I recently watched Raimi's trilogy with my son, and even Spiderman 2, which I felt was the best, doesn't hold up as well as something like Iron Man has. THe part with the train is still a great scene, but the rest of 1 and 2 weren't that great. Kinda cartoony, especially the first movie (particularly when he's designing his costume, "symbol?"), and really to me Amazing Spiderman is to the Raimi movies what Batman Begins was to the Burton movies. Not saying one is better, but the newer version makes the older one look way too goofy for my taste.

Oddly, I appreciated Spiderman 3 more than I used to, but it's still the weakest of the three.

MJ still is not hot enough and I love how every single person in a super hero movie just happens to be into that particular hero over the rest. A little more than coincidence when it's all the time and every actor or actress says it.

nah, saw the trilogy a few months back. none of them hold up that well. in comparison to TASM, Spidey 2 had a much better script and fight choreography but thats about it. the directing was subpar. plenty of poorly framed sequences and Franco was terrible.

TASM's cinematography, acting and overall directing blows Raimi's out of the water. so i guess it just comes down to what you prefer. i'm referring to Spidey 2 vs. TASM btw. 1 was just okay and 3 was horrible.

btw, Woodley was good in The Descendants. but physically, she doesn't look too "mary jane'ish" to me. not to say shes not attractive.

Whoever said there was a love triangle between Gwen and MJ is wrong. Peter always preferred Gwen before she died, Mary Jane just use to flirt with Pete a little. Anyways, I hope they don't kill Gwen in this or the next movie, it's just too soon.
