Sign A Petition To Make Spider-Man Part Of The Marvel Cinematic Universe

Where was Spider-Man/Peter Parker during the events of The Avengers? Sony Pictures holds the rights to Spider-Man and his related characters, so Marvel can't reference him directly. Sign the petition to help bring him back into the Marvel fold!

It is without a doubt that Spider-Man is one of the most iconic characters in Marvel Comics. With the enormous success of Marvel Studios' franchise, some questions have been raised regarding the whereabouts of Spider-Man/Peter Parker during the events of The Avengers. The fact is, the movie rights to him and all of his related characters are owned by Sony Pictures, and Marvel Studios can not legally reference him directly.

When asked about the possibility of Spidey joining the MCU, 'The Amazing Spider-Man' director Marc Webb said:

"I would love that, as a fan, I think that would be great. I don’t know how that would happen, but I certainly would be supportive of it."

Emma Stone (Gwen Stacy) said:

"I think [a crossover] would be amazing! I think that would be incredible. I think it could work in the realms of "movie land", but I don't know how it works in the realms of "business land". You'd have to ask the people at Marvel and Sony."

Andrew Garfield (Spider-Man/Peter Parker) said:

"I say 'never say never’, you know? I think everyone would love to see that. Obviously, big business and lawyers and rights issues are an obstacle. In my naivete I'm all 'let's put all that aside and just do it!'."

Kevin Feige (President of Marvel Studios and Executive Producer of 'The Amazing Spider-Man') also said:

"Never say never!"

Marc Webb confirmed that efforts were made to make a crossover cameo (in The Avengers I assume) but nothing came to fruition. Also, there was going to be an Oscorp easter egg in The Avengers skyline, which would have somewhat confirmed that Spidey exists in the same world.

By signing this petition, hopefully we can grab the attention of some of the people in charge. If we can get a response, that would be great.

I have no problem with Spidey in his own universe.

Hmm.. you realise this is a business decision that cannot be affected by laws or courts.. usually petitions are based around corruptions in companies or governments that the people can have control over due to living in a democracy. Plus, you don't think Kevin Feige doesn't want spider-man back? Spider-man is a money maker, and that's why sony haven't given the rights back. But from a business standpoint, they bought the rights, so they have the rights. And if Marvel wanted them back sooner they should have written that into the contract all those years ago.

All the quotes you're mentioning are based around the two distributors working together, or loaning rights of characters for a film or two. However one of the problems with that is that once you've established that, yes, Spider-man is in the MCU, then every Sony spider-man film has to work closely with Marvel to make sure they're not screwing the continuity up and instead pushing the story forward.

Now there is far more chance of Spider-man entering the MCU in comparison to the X-men entering, the biggest reason being that the x-men films branch off more, they make more films with more characters and are having a hard enough time with their own continuity much less trying to connect it to another distributors franchise. Whereas spider-man so far is only two films with a single superhero, making for much less headache to connect it.

Finally, and most importantly, the biggest problem is money, or "how would the distributors split the profits?". A film can only make so much money, if you're teaming them up, then each distributor is only making a fraction of the profits of the film that they would otherwise be making a huge amount of.

However, the smartest thing for Sony to do would be to let Marvel use spider-man for a modest fee in the team up films, and just use that as free marketing for his solo films. You saw how much the profits for Iron Man 3 went up after the avengers, as well as Thor 2. Really it would be a win win situation for both studios. But I doubt sony would go for that, and TBH I don't think Marvel would settle for anything less.

This petition is a bad-asss idea because it really just works out great. Didn't y'all hear Ben stepped down from the role of Batman?

But in all seriousness, petitions are the stupidest things in the world.

Hell no to this, Spidey isn't in the MCU just accept that. And he will NEVER be an Avenger....Garfield and Webb are here to stay for the next 5-7 years and there ain't nothing you can do about it.

@Doom
Garfield is a great Spidey, Webb is a meh director tho...

If you want to make a petition to the studios, that's one thing that I could understand, although I wouldn't support it. Using that leftist piece of crap organization change.org to make a petition about a comic book character is just so far beyond stupid that it's ridiculous.
