After lending his voice to the character in 2018's Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Nicolas Cage is set to reprise the role of Spider-Man Noir in MGM+ and Prime Video's Noir.

According to Variety, the series will debut in the U.S. on MGM+'s linear channel before launching globally on Amazon's streaming service. News of plans for Noir first broke last year, but Cage's involvement was only ever rumoured.

"Expanding the Marvel universe with 'Noir'; is a uniquely special opportunity and we are honored to bring this series to our global Prime Video customers," said Vernon Sanders, head of television for Amazon MGM Studios today.

"The extremely talented Nicolas Cage is an ideal choice for our new superhero and the accomplished producing team with Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, Amy Pascal, and the incredible team at Sony is dedicated to expanding this franchise in the most authentic way."

While we don't know if Cage is playing a Peter Parker Variant in the series, an official logline says Noir tells the story "of an aging and down on his luck private investigator (Cage) in 1930s New York, who is forced to grapple with his past life as the city’s one and only superhero."

As we previously reported, Oren Uziel (Mortal Kombat) and Steve Lightfoot (The Punisher) are co-showrunners and developed the series with Lord, Miller, and Pascal, who will executive produce the series.

"We are absolutely thrilled to have Nicolas Cage starring in this series! No one else could bring such pathos, pain, and heart to this singular character," said Katherine Pope, president of Sony Pictures Television Studios. "Along with our brilliant producers and partners at Amazon MGM Studios and Prime Video, we couldn't ask for a better team to explore this reimagining of such an iconic character in Sony’s Universe of Marvel Characters."

Sony has struggled with expanding the SUMC in theaters, with movies like Venom, Morbius, and Madame Web drawing mixed to negative reviews. Spider-Man 4 is in the works starring Tom Holland but the difference there is Marvel Studios is heavily involved on the creative side.

Noir is the second live-action TV series in the works at Amazon, with the other being Angela Kang's Silk: Spider Society. There hasn't been much movement on that lately, and unlike this show starring Cage, it still doesn't have a lead star attached.

Cage's comic book movie credits include Kick-Ass, Ghost Rider, and Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. Noir doesn't currently have a confirmed premiere date.
