SPIDER-MAN 2: Peter Parker Actor Yuri Lowenthal Teases The Sequel's "Astonishing" Scale (Exclusive)

Spider-Man star Yuri Lowenthal has confirmed he's still working on Insomniac's upcoming sequel, describing the game as "astonishing." Hear more from the fan-favourite Peter Parker actor right here...

Insomniac Games' Spider-Man blew us all away when it was released in 2018, with a subsequent PlayStation 5 remaster and spin-off, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, proving to be every bit as spectacular. With that in mind, excitement for the upcoming sequel, Spider-Man 2, is understandably high.

We've seen nothing from that beyond a brief cinematic teaser (which confirmed plans for Venom and Kraven the Hunter to appear), but it was recently confirmed that the game will be released this Fall.

Earlier this week, we spoke to Yuri Lowenthal about his standout role as Mon El in Legion of Super-Heroes. We'll bring you our full conversation with him in a few days, but while we had the Peter Parker voice actor on the phone, we had to ask if he could share anything about Spider-Man 2!

"I’ve still got a little bit to do. It’s a massive game so I’m still doing a little bit of work," Lowenthal confirmed. "I know they’re confident about their release date and Insomniac has always been good about that. Obviously, I can’t really talk about the game much, but I will tell you that it’s astonishing."

"I’m so excited for you to play it. They know they’ve got big shoes to fill from the last two games and they’ve done it [Laughs]," he continued. "I just can’t wait for people to play it."

As expected, it sounds like the sequel will be even bigger than its predecessor, something we anticipated with both Peter Parker and Miles Morales likely to be playable characters. It's definitely not uncommon for work to still be taking place this far out from the game's release, and we're pleased Lowenthal is confident in Spider-Man 2 arriving in stores this Fall.

The prolific actor also addressed his web-slinger's appearance in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse's trailer and poster, and you can get the full story on that here

Legion of Super-Heroes is set to be released on February 7.

I just want to see more of Venom in this game and get a bit more understanding of the backstory. Trying to figure out how it’s going to play out with Harry being in a preservation chamber with the Symbiote attached to him and probably keeping him alive.

@MahN166A - playing as Venom in the Ultimate Spider-Man game was great. Shame there was never a part 2.

@TheSuperMex - ya that was pretty awesome. I also liked that Web of Shadows game where he was the big bad. Really looking forward to this game, and Tony Todd doing the voice is badass!

I hope we get to explore more of New York than just Manhattan. I think GTA and True Crime are the only games that let explore a lot of New York. Every open world Spider-Man game is just Manhattan.

@TheSuperMex - I read some leaks saying they were going to introduce Brooklyn and Queens in the next one.

@TheSuperMex @OrgasmicPotatoe - either Queens or Brooklyn would be great additions, but both would fit being called an astonishing scale

I hope massive in scale doesn’t mean we added more Mary Jane missions those sucked.

@MyCoolYoung - I think Insomniac did mention a while back that they were aware of players disdain for the MJ sections of the game.

@Mercwitham0uth - wait really? Lol they were really boring can't lie but I fully expected them to be back

@MyCoolYoung - "Intihar noted that he’s aware that not everyone liked these gameplay sections, but of course, it’s impossible to please everyone."

So with Spider-Man sequelizing now melting my brain, this may be off topic.

Does this definitively prove that Gusto & Supercat were the real Crockett & Tubbs?

Still waiting on that subtitle. No way the game comes out as spider-man 2.

Though I said that about Gotham Knights and nobody budged there.

I wish they started off with the early years or an origin story for peter parker instead. Timeline just feels off that he hasnt encountered green goblin yet but he’s already trained miles morales

@Matchesz - It’s trying to establish its own story. It’s not trying to be familiar.

@Matchesz - nah it's fine, not every adaption needs to be the same. Tell your own story and have Goblin face an older Peter
